Chapter 287
Ellie’s POV
My ankle felt a little better by the time the day of the organization meeting came around. Not quite enough to go about my usual routine with ease, but enough to walk a little, so long as I kept my weight off of it.
I hadn’t seen Dominic at all since the day it happened, which didn’t surprise me. Perhaps I wasn’t quite on my deathbed just yet like in my past life, but the fact that he didn’t bother to come to my bedside wasn’t terribly out of character for him.
Good. If anything, it solidified the decision I had made.
This divorce needed to happen. One way or another. And I was not going to keep dragging my feet, waiting around for things to get better.
Because they wouldn’t.
I didn’t know if Dominic would take the initiative and divorce me. I doubted it. But at the very least, this healer organization felt like an opportunity to further my career, giving myself a chance to get out of a very
bad situation.
And, dammit, I was going to take that opportunity.
The morning of the meeting dawned bright and clear. I woke, wrapping my ankle in the supportive brace that Colt had picked up for me, then dressed simply. I pulled my hair back into its usual braid and headed downstairs.
Dominic was, of course, waiting for me. He was standing in front of the front door with his arms folded and that familiar stubborn look on his face.
“You can’t go,” he said.
I stopped at the bottom of the stairs. “I can, and I will.” I said it calmly, even though that familiar feeling of frustration was already beginning to bubble up in my chest.
His lips pursed. He nodded to my leg. “Your ankle is still hurt. You shouldn’t be walking on it. You should be resting, here. At home. With me.”
r
“I’ll be the judge of that.” I walked up to him, trying my best not to limp. It didn’t work. He stayed put exactly where he was, lifting his chin so he looked down his nose at me.
“Ellie.”
