Chapter 298
Ellie’s POV
Huffing through her nose, Sarah dragged one of the nearby chairs over and sat down in front of me. She folded her hands in her lap and waited with a quirked brow
I took a breath and started talking.
In as much detail as I could, I told her everything.
I started, of course, with how I had died in my past life. How the assassin had stabbed me with a knife coated in wolfsbane toxin-or so I’d thought at the time. How I’d laid in that bed for days. How Dominic, after years of hatred and coldness, had actually come to my bedside for once. But then the toxin set in, and I became feverish and delirious, and Dominic went away again and Vivian hovered like a vulture waiting for me to finally kick the bucket so she could take my place.
Then, I told her about how I had woken up years earlier, in my younger body, in my childhood bedroom, with all of those memories intact.
After that, I went on to tell her about moments I’d tried to change history. I told her about the wedding. About stabbing Dominic because I was terrified he’d hurt me the way he did before. About Lucas and the contract and everything Dominic had said and done that made me think he was the same cruel, distant bastard from my past life.
I told her about Vivian. About the schemes, the manipulation, the way she’d planted Mara in the house to spy on me. About how she’d forged those letters to make it look like I was having an affair with Lucas, all so she could push Dominic further away from me and closer to her.
I told her about the plague. And how Lucas had helped me. How I’d told him, in a fit of despair quite similar to this one, about my predicament.
Her face hardened at that point, but she remained quiet.
Eventually, I told her about Colt. About the perfume. About how I’d used him to hurt Vivian because I was convinced she was going to hurt me worse if I didn’t strike first.
And, finally, I told her about the knife. The one I’d asked her to test. How it had come back clean, no toxin at all, and how that meant someone may have poisoned me after the stabbing. How it meant my death wasn’t just an assassination meant for Dominic, but a murder carefully concealed behind a tragic event that wouldn’t have killed me on its own, and I still didn’t know who the culprit was.
Surprisingly, Sarah didn’t interrupt once the entire time I was talking. She just sat there, hands folded, watching me with those big eyes. I couldn’t tell what she was thinking. Her face was completely blank.
By the time I finished, my throat was raw and my eyes were burning. I wiped at my face again and waited for her to say something.
She didn’t.
