The Luna Queen's Rebirth (Ellie and Dominic) novel Chapter 510

Chapter 510

Ellie’s POV

I nearly knocked a torch off the wall scrambling to answer him.

“Dominic! I’m here! I’m here!”

“Ellie.” His voice came through faint and crackling, cutting in and out the way Nico’s had in the dream. But it was him. It was really him. “Where are you? Are you hurt?”

“I’m alive. I’m “I laughed, pressing a hand over my mouth. He’d feel the whole truth through the bond anyway. “I’ll live. Where are YOU?”

“Inside the mountain. I found a cave in the cliff face and started walking.” A pause. “It’s a long story.”

“So is mine.”

His passages had to connect to the labyrinth somewhere, so I talked him through the waves-how the crests all leaned in one direction like a current, how the current had led me here. For a long while, his end of the bond went quiet, and I paced the shelves, feeding the torches, listening to my own heartbeat.

“Okay,” he finally said. “I found your waves.”

“Follow the crests.”

“They’d better know where they’re going.”

Time crawled. Then, stronger and closer than before:

“There’s a tapestry down here. A woman in gold.”

“Behind it!” I said it out loud, already running for the bookshelf. “Behind it-there’s a door. Stairs.”

“How many stairs?”

“I lost count at two hundred.”

“…Wonderful.”

I stood at the back of the library with my hands pressed against the old wood for what felt like an eternity. Finally, I heard boots scraping on the other side. I flung the bookcase open, and then Dominic was on me, colliding, his hands cupping my face, lips searching, eyes wide.

“Ellie. Ellie, Ellie-”

“Dominic-”

His name ended on a sob for me, but it didn’t matter. His arms wrapped around me and crushed me into his chest, and I held on tight, curling my fingers into his jacket. I noticed that he was freezing. His clothes were damp, his jaw rough against my temple. But he was alive. We were alive.

Our love.

The words struck me more than usual because of those visions I’d seen. Visions of him and Vivian, tangled together, wrapped in ecstasy.

I’d known even then, on a logical level, that it wasn’t real. But hearing him say that he loved me out loud made all of the residual fears wash away.

“What about Bastian?” I finally asked, swallowing. “I hope he’s okay.”

“He’ll be fine. Mommy wouldn’t hurt her little boy.” Dominic’s eyes were hard. “But I do worry what she’s done with his head.”

He was right. If Stephanie had drugged Bastian twice, then she’d probably already filled his head with lies. And despite everything, Bastian clearly loved her too much to notice that she couldn’t be trusted. He still saw her as the brutal yet protective mother, who only ever did what was good for the pack. He didn’t think she was capable of killing.

Which meant that our second to last line of defense might be under her spell.

But there was still one person left. Nico. I’d told him about Stephanie. He believed me, I knew he did. I just hoped he would be able to help.
