“Because of you,” She scoffed. “I was nearly exploded. Then Vivian wrote a letter of recommendation and saved my ass.”

That made me pause. I glance at her. “What?”

“Vivian wrote the teacher for me,” she says. “Not you. She told me a few days later. She’s a good friend. In the end.”

I study her face. The certainty there. The need.

I could correct her.

I don’t.

“Good,” I say simply. “Then focus on your second chance and leave me alone.”

She rolls her eyes like a dismissal and looks away to Dominic across the room. An instant smile.

But I keep my eyes on my work as the stations are assigned. I’m with a small Beta., Karina with…Dominc.

I swear she lowered her shirt and unbuttoned part of her lab coat. All professionalism out the window.

“Oh, Alpha,” she says lightly, sitting on table next to Dom. “Looks like we’re paired.”

I don’t look up as I settle on my partner, Meg, and some how, Dominic and Karnia on stationed to the table behind us.

I check meg’s pulse, calm and steady beneath my fingers. “How have you been feeling?” I ask her.

But her eyes are glue to Dominic, like a pup in heat.

My lashes lower.

I guess I was hard not to look at the show happening behind us.

Karina giggled liek a school girl, feeling up his arm.

Dom stiffened, leaning away slightly.

“Hi. Question. Thought you were expelled?” Dominic says flatly.

Karina laughs. “That’s harsh. I’m still one of the top healers here, love!”

His brow lowered. “You crossed a line. Lied. Used my name to do it.”

“That was the old me,” she replies smoothly. “People change.”

I almost smirk. What a load of crap.

He lays down, and her hand moves as she leans over the table, chest pressing deliberately into his arm as she reaches to take his heart rate.

My jaw tightens.

God she was so annoying. But I keep my focus exactly where it belongs.

Dominic’s voice drops. “Quit it.

“Yeah,” Karina murmurs, breathy, squeezing his muscle “What are you going to do about it?”

I glance back, Dominic laying down. Karina parastlly over him, chest pressed into his relaxed hand as she reaches for his plse.

My hand slams down my stethoscope, everyone jumping as I smile to Mèg. “Can you turn around for me?” My smile tight. “I need to listen from yoù back.”

I block out everything happening behind me.

Not my problem.

Just finish my assessment, jot down clean notes, and move on without sparing that circus behind me another glance.

Dominic POV

Being paired with Karina is a test of patience.

Honestly, I thought she was already gone. Good riddance too, nothing but a lapping pup for attention and screwing my good name over to do it.
