Chapter 93
Ellie POV
Maybe…I pushed to far.
His hand is still braced against the wall above, body pressed close when when footsteps echoed down the
corridor.
“Well,” Lucas says lightly, like he’s commenting on the weather, “either I have the worst timing in the world, or the best. Why does it always seem like I’m rescuing you from this tool?”
Dominic doesn’t move his arm. Doesn’t ease back an inch. He sighs, head dropping like Lucas was delivered
bad news.
“Less saving,” he says coolly, finally looking his way, “More like, interrupting.”
Lucas stops beside us, close enough that the tension shifts, redistributes but far enough for spacce. “Nah,” he replies. “I’d say save.”
Dominic finally drops his arm from over me. “It’s not saving if you pretend to be a hero every time she doesn’t ask for one.”
Lucas grins. “Funny. Worked in the gym locker, didn’t it? She ran right out, scared.”
Dominic’s jaw tightens.
I pipe up. “Excuse me,” my brow furrows between them. “No scared. Just cold. Ready to leave.”
“See?” Dom nods my way. “She was fine.”
Lucas shifts his weight, arms folding. “Fine like locked in a closet with a perv fine, or getting pinned to the locker by and idiot, fine?”
Dominic rolled his eyes, letting out an exhausted breath. “Fine like she is an adult who can make her choices, and will ask for help when she needs it.”
They both pause.
“Scrath that last part,” Dom waves.
“Yeah I was gonna say,” Lucas nods.
୮
“Hey!” I snap between them. “Okay are we done talking about me yep cause I feel like we should be done talking about me!”
Lucas steps in easily next to me, smoothly.
“True,” he says, like Dominic isn’t even there. “Change of scenery and topic. You hungry? I was thinking lunch.”
He offers his arm.
Right in front of Dominic.
I tense. Not this again. Anything but Alpha show case of power or whatever dumb shit they did.
My hand presses to my temple when Dominic scoffs, irritation slipping through the sarcasm. “Wow. Desperate.”
Lucas shrugs. “Call it efficient.”
I was already opening my mouth to say no.
I had plans. Sarah and I were supposed to eat together. I’d even promised her my figs but…
Then I glance at Dominic.
Maybe…I was sick of his overpowering. Always seeming to be in control no matter what I did.
Besides. We were committing to space. What a better way to kick that off..
Turning to Lucas I nodded before I could stop myself.
“Yes,” I hear myself say, confident. “I would love to go to lunch with you.”
