Kai

My blood is boiling. Every step I take toward Rina’s quarters feels like I’m going to go insane. I don’t even bother to glance at several people bowing and greeting me as I storm through the hallways.

‘She lied,’ Vlad snarls, I can feel his claws scraping against the mental barriers of my mind. She played us like a fool, Kai. She touched what is ours and made us hurt her. Rina needs to pay.’

I don’t disagree.

I reach the door of Rina’s suite and don’t bother knocking. I push them open with enough force to make the wood slam against the walls. Inside, Rina is lounging on a velvet sofa, draped in silk, while three maids stand over her. One is fixing her nails, another is brushing her hair, and the third is massaging her feet.

‘Leave us. Right now,” I command. My voice is low and dangerous, cutting through the peaceful atmosphere rike a blade.

The maids freeze, their eyes wide with terror as they turn to look at me. Rina sits up, her expression shifting from relaxation to a surprised, bright smile.

They don’t need a second warning. They jump in fear, dropping their tools and scurrying out of the room like rats. The door clicks shut behind them, leaving

I step closer to her, glaring at her. Rina stands up, putting on that practiced, sweet pout that usually works on everyone else. She reaches out her hands to

pull me into a hug.

I shift my weight, stepping out of her reach before she can touch me. She stops, her hands hanging in the air, looking at me with a confused expression. Then, she forces a smile back onto her face.

“How did you know about Roman and Lyra being in the garden that night?” I cut her off. My voice is flat, devoid of any of the warmth she expects from her

future mate.

Rina rolls her eyes, letting out a dramatic sigh as she sinks back into the sofa. “Ugh, if you came here to talk about that useless slave of yours again, then I don’t want to talk to you right now. Honestly, Kai, it’s becoming embarrassing. You’re always talking about this girl! I’m starting to think you—*

‘Answer the fucking question, Rina!” I yell. The sound echoes off the ceilings, making the crystal chandelier shake.

Rina looks pretty surprised, her eyes getting big. She stammers, clearly starting to lose her composure under the pressure of my glare.

*I… I told you. I saw them. I saw them going there together.”

I let out a dry, humorless chuckle. I move in it. I step even closer until I’m towering over her. “You just happened to be wandering near the remote garden at midnight? You were the only one to see them, no one else did. And you made sure I heard what will make me want to check immediately It was planned, wasn’t it? It was a setup.”

Ring stands up again, her face twisting into a mask of anger. ‘Wow! So now you believe some pathetic girl you’ve known for less than two months over me? Your actual mate? Your equal?”

I stare at her in silence, my eyes fixed on hers, I don’t blink. I don’t move. I just ret the weight of thy silence press down on her until she starts to fidget.

Rina shakes her head, looking at me as if I’ve just committed the ultimate betrayal. “You know, all I’ve ever done is love and respect you, Kar. I’ve prepared my whole life to be your Queen. But you? You keep treating me like an inconvenience. Like a problem to be solved. I really don’t deserve this treatment. If you keep this up, you’re going to force me to report your behavior to your father, and i don’t think he’ll be happy to hear-

Before she can finish the threat, my hand shoots out. I grab her neck, my grip firm but not crushing, just enough to let her know I could snap it in a heartbeat. I let my eyes flash red, unleashing the power of my Lycan command on her. It’s a power that forces submission, and Rina, despite being a high- born Lycan, isn’t strong enough to fight it.

“Answer me!” I growl, the sound vibrating through her skin.
