Chapter 127
Lyra
My heart is racing as I stare at Alpha Poppy, my eyes searching hers. I need to know.
“My friends,” I rasps, my voice sounding thin and dry. “Are they okay? Did they pass?”
Alpha Poppy doesn’t answer immediately. She just turns and begins to walk toward the exit of the testing wing, her boots clicking on the stone floor to follow behind her with my legs still feeling like jelly.
“It is against the rules for a student to know the results of any test other than their own, Lyra,” Poppy says without looking back.
“Please, Alpha” I beg. “I just saw them… I saw them over that pit. I need to know if they’re safe.”
Poppy pauses and turns to look at me. Her sharp eyes soften just a bit. “I will tell you this much. Two of your friends passed their tests. As for the third one… well…”
I hold my breath, my stomach twisting into a knot. “Who? Was it Erika? Did she make it?”
“We shall see,” Poppy says simply. She turns back around and continues walking. “For now, you need to focus on yourself. You look like you’ve been through a hell an back.”
I bite my lip, wondering if she means Erika. I pray to the Goddess that she passed. She was so desperate to get off probation. If she failed again, I don’t know what she’ll do.
*Come, Poppy says, leading me to a small table. “Take a moment to get yourself together. Drink a cup of moon juice. Then you can leave and search for your
friends.*
My eyes widen at the mention of the drink. I’ve heard of moon juice. The drink is a rare tonic, specifically made to replenish the inner animals of wolves
after a brutal battle or an exhausting trial. I’ve heard stories about it back in the Valeria pack, but only high–level Alphas and Lycans are ever allowed to
touch it. Omegas like me weren’t even allowed to smell the steam from the pot.
I can’t believe I’m now considered one of the people worthy of this. I try to hide the smile growing on my face, but I fail as I pick up the cup and take a bung
sip.
The liquid is cool and tastes like honey and mint. The moment it hits my stomach, a feeling of warmth spreads through my span can actually teel my body refreshing itself. The deep bruises on my arms start to fade, and the ache in my lungs from the fire in the pit vanishes
I’ve been healing halfway already because of Wyndra, but this drink finishes the job. It’s like I didn’t even go through an ordeal at all I feel strony Land
powerful.
Thank you, Alpha Poppy, I say, setting the cup down. I turn to leave, eager to find the girls outside.
“Wait, Lyra, Poppy saya. We bave one more thing to talk about.
I pause, my hand on the door handle. I run back to her, wondering if I assed a borm or a signature. What?
Poppy walks closer until she is standing right in front of me she reaches our and holds my baths. Her grip is firm but kind.

Chapter 127
Lknow what you are,” she says quietly.
I freeze. The blood in my veins turns to ice. My heart, which had just calmed down, starts racing again. What does she mean? Did she see my s thought the virtual reality world was private, I thought the chambers were hidderr from outside eyes?!
‘I… I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” I stutter. I try to pull my hands away, but she holds on.
Poppy shakes her head and offers a small, knowing smile. “Don’t play coy with me, girl. I know you’re not a wolf. You’re something much more spe that.
Panic flares in my chest. My head starts to spin. How could she know?
‘Deny it!‘ Wyndra warns in my head. ‘Lyra, do not admit anything. No one must find out about you yet. If the Lycan King finds out, he will kill you. Or wo turn you into a weapon. Deny it now!‘
“I really don’t know what you mean,” I say, my voice trembling. “I’m just a normal girl. More or less a human. I just got lucky in the test.”
Poppy laughs softly. It’s not a mean laugh. She gently taps my cheek. “I know you can’t admit the truth. Honestly, it’s better that way. Keep your secret Lyra. It’s safer for everyone.”
I blink at her, completely confused. “Then why tell me?”
“Because I’ve already been sworn to secrecy,” Poppy whispers. “By someone who wants to protect you very much.”
My jaw drops. “Who? Who told you?”
Just as she opens her mouth to answer, a loud, booming signal echoes through the hall. It’s the sound that announces another student has completed their
final assessment.
“Oh, Poppy says, straightening her jacket. “That’s my cue. I have to go.”
She starts to walk away, but then she stops and turns back to me. She looks at me with a strange expression–like she’s in awe of me.
“You have no idea how special you are, Lyra Diamond,” she says. “I hope you find out the full truth soon. When you do, it will change the fate of this entire
world.”
She leaves before I can say another word. I stand there staring after her, my mind a complete mess. What the fuck is she talking about Change the world. just wanted to pass a test so I wouldn’t be a slave anymore.
I shake my head, trying to clear the thoughts, and walk out of the Proving Grounds.
The sun is bright outside, and the air is filled with the sounds of students cheering and hollering happily. I scan the crowd, mis eyes searching for any of red hair or blonde curls.
Goddess, please, please, let my friends pass. Pleuse!
The moment I spot Amara and Isolde standing near a stone bench, my keys give out as I sink to the grass leghe a huge var o wlier wash ove me. They’re alive. They’re sale,
