killing a member of my pack without any warning or trial! You’re a Prince, but you can’t just execute people!”

“That bastard was doomed to die the very second he laid his filthy hands on you,” Kai snaps, his eyes flashing red with Lycan fury. “No one hurts you and

gets away with it, Lyra. No one. Besides, I’m a Prince. I can do whatever the hell I want. And right now, I want to save you.”

“I don’t need you to save me!” I fire back, my chest heaving. “I don’t want you around me if you’re just going to turn around and chase me away the very

“Don’t fucking talk to me about my cousin,” Kai snaps, cutting me off entirely. The fury in his eyes is so intense.

you about your choices? Do I complain about you and your precious mate, Rina?”

Kai lets out a frustrated sigh, rubbing a hand over his face. He looks exhausted, the anger suddenly draining out of him, leaving something raw and

desperate behind. “You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about, Lyra. You have no idea why I chose to continue with Rina.”

I cross my arms over my chest, glaring at him. “Then tell me. Why?”

“To protect your life from my father! To keep you safe!”

I freeze. The words echo in my mind, leaving me completely shocked and speechless. The anger dies in my throat. I stare up at him, my heart stopping for a

completely different reason. Is he really serious? Is he telling the truth?

Unconsciously, my arms drop to my sides, and I take a small step closer to him. “What… what do you mean? Why is the King threatening you with me?”
