The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 74

hapter 74

Lyra

I stare at Frika while my mind is racing, trying to find a logical reason why she would be wrapped in a hug 4th Princess Rina. Rina is the last person on earth 1 expected to see being friendly with my friend. The Princess catches my eye and smiles wickedly, a look of pure triumph on her face. She doesn’t say word to me, she just turns on her heel and walks away, her coup of girls following closely behind like a well-trained park.

The second Rina is away from us, Erika runs up to me, looking super exited, her face glowing like I haven’t seen since she bombed her assessment.

“Lyra!” she cries out, reaching me and throwing her arms around me in a tight hug.

I stand frozen. I can’t bring myself to hug her back. My arms hang limply at my sides while my brain tries to process the scene I just witnessed. It feels wrong. Everything about it feels wrong.

After a few seconds, Erika pulls back and looks at the three of us. She looks between me, Amara, and Isolde, her smile wavering just a bit. Is everything alright? Why are you guys looking at me like that?”

None of us answer. The silence is thick and uncomfortable. Erika looks confused, her head tilting to the side as if she genuinely doesn’t think she has done anything out of the ordinary. She hugs me again, tighter this time.

“I missed you so much these last few days, Lyra,” she says against my shoulder. “I wanted to come see you, I really did. I just didn’t have the courage to show up after how I acted last time. I felt so bad about the things I said.”

She steps back, searching my face for a reaction. When I still don’t say anything, her expression shifts to one of concern. “Is something wrong? Did something happen?”

is the first to break the awkward silence. She crosses her arms over her chest with narrowed eyes. “Why the hell were you just with Princess Rina?”

Erika goes speechless. She takes a step back, her eyes looking toward the hallway where Rina disappeared. She starts to stutter, her hands moving nervously. “Well… I… I…she just wanted to talk.”

“Talk about what?” Isolde demands.

Erika takes a breath and tries to pull her composure together. She forces a smile, though it looks a little too bright. “Well…Princess Rina offered to tutor me.

She said she saw how upset I was about failing my last weekly wolf assessment test and said she’d help me pass the next one. She was actually really nice

about it.”

She looks at me, her excitement returning. “And that’s not even the best part! She told me that I can attend the wolf event on Friday! She said she’d

personally make sure I’m on the list.”

I feel a chill go down my spine. Someone like Rina wouldn’t do “nice” things for free. “Is that all she spoke to you about, Erika? Just tutoring and the party?”

Erika nods quickly. “Yes. What else do you think we talked about?”

Isolde lets out a mocking laugh. So you’re buddies with her now? You’re best friends with the same Princess Rina who treats Lyra like garbage? The same girl who makes everyone in this Academy feel beneath her?”

Erika’s face flushes with anger. She turns on Isolde. “What was I supposed to do? Was I supposed to just send her away when she offered to help me? I need to pass that test, Isolde. I can’t afford to fail again.”

The two of them start to argue, their voices rising until other students in the hall start en turn and stare I can feel a headache forming in my temple. The tension is already high enough with Kai missing and the King’s shadow hanging over the school. I can’t deal with my friends tearing each other apart ton,

“Guys: Enough!” I say, stepping between them. I let out a long sigh and look at each of them. Stop it. We aren’t going to solve this by screaming at each
