The Mafia Lord's Secret Lover (Evelyn) novel Chapter 207

Chapter 207: She Was Wrong

Evelyn took a slow, trembling breath, her chest feeling painfully tight.

"Master, you know what safety means to him? Obedience. Silence. Losing myself so he can preserve his image..."

Her voice trembled as she continued, "So, He... He... can keep his mistress from hurting my mother, Stella, and me..."

The silence that followed was suffocating.

Even William Walters, who had been standing quietly with his arms crossed, seemed taken aback by the raw emotion in her voice.

Nolan looked torn. His eyes darted between Evelyn and William before landing back on her. "Eve, I..."

Evelyn stepped closer, her voice breaking as she said, "You told me once that true strength means standing against even the people you love when they do wrong. Have you forgotten your own words, Master?"

Nolan’s composure finally cracked. He closed his eyes briefly, exhaling a deep, weary sigh.

When he opened them again, regret filled his gaze. "You haven’t changed," he said quietly. "You’re still that stubborn little girl who refused to quit until she got what she believed in."

She wiped her tears with the back of her hand, smiling faintly through the pain. "You made me that way, Master."

For a long moment, neither spoke.

The air was heavy, thick with unspoken emotion.

Finally, Nolan said softly, "Then prove me right, Eve. But be careful. You’re walking a dangerous path." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Evelyn nodded, her face calm even though her heart hurt. "I know. But I’d rather walk a dangerous path with integrity than live safely as a coward."

Nolan’s lips curved slightly, just barely, but there was pride hidden behind his sadness. "Then I have nothing left to teach you," he murmured.

"You’ll always be my teacher, Master. Even when we’re not on the same side."

He nodded once, slowly, before turning to glance at William Walters. "You should let her go. Nothing good can come out of this," he said quietly.

William’s face darkened. "Nolan, you—"

"I’m sorry, Will... I’m just an old man from the mountain seeking tranquility," Nolan shot a sharp look at William Walters. He crossed his hands behind his back and continued, "I can’t interfere in your family affairs this far."

Evelyn wiped her remaining tears, straightened her back, and looked at her father one last time.

"You’ve taken enough from me," Evelyn said coldly. "You won’t take my freedom, too."

...

Just when Evelyn thought it was finally over—when her father had run out of ways to control her, to break her—she allowed herself a single breath of relief.

Her fight was over.

She had stood her ground.

Or so she thought.

However,

She was wrong.

Completely wrong.

As she gave a final respectful bow to her Master, Nolan Palmer, and turned to leave, peace was the last thing waiting for her.

The sudden scrape of metal broke through the quiet.

Everyone froze.

When Evelyn turned around, her world stopped.

William’s cold voice broke the silence, "Eve, this is the only way for me to get back to the company, to turn things around. You forced me to do this..."

His hand trembled, the gun still aimed directly at Evelyn. His face twisted in a mixture of pain and rage. As he continued his words, "Now, sign the paper, or you will not leave this room alive."

The words hung heavy in the air.

Evelyn’s lips curled into a faint, heartbroken smile. There was no fear in her eyes, only pity. "Father..." she said softly.

William flinched.

It was the first time she had called him that in years. The sound of it hit him like a blow to the chest. For a fleeting second, something human flickered in his expression.

Evelyn’s voice was quiet but sharp. "You’ve truly lost your mind. You’ve gone insane." Her tone wasn’t angry; it was full of sorrow and disgust. "You’ve really lost your way. I feel sorry for you."

"DON’T FEEL PITY FOR ME!" William roared, his voice cracking with anger. He raised the gun higher, his finger twitching near the trigger. "JUST SIGN THE DAMN PAPER!"

"Father... please—"

"I WILL LET YOU LIVE IF YOU SIGN THAT—"

A thunderous gunshot cut him off.

The sound tore through the room like a shockwave.

Alicia screamed.

Stella gasped.

Lisa’s heart jumped one beat.

For a horrifying second, no one could tell what had happened.
