Chapter 242.
Nico’s Perspective.
Relief washed over me knowing Talia hadn’t been harmed this time. Yet, it was obvious from the heavy weight on her shoulders—especially after seeing so many of her men, our brothers, and allied mafias injured—that she was blaming herself. The guilt was written all over her face.
When she suddenly collapsed into Luke’s arms, my heart nearly stopped. It was terrifying to witness, but deep down, I felt a strange comfort knowing she would finally get some rest. And now, watching her peacefully asleep in Kayden’s arms, it was clear she was finally finding some respite.
Though she’s my little sister, I can’t help but feel a surge of curiosity and excitement about what kind of proposal they might offer her next. It’s evident to all of us how much they care for her—more than anything else in the world. Their kindness toward her is unmistakable.
We continued whispering quietly for a while longer, updating Kayden on who had been hurt and who was still standing. Thankfully, none of our side had suffered fatal injuries, which was a huge relief. After some time, we left the medic’s room, leaving only Kayden and Talia there to ensure she could rest without disturbance.
The rest of us headed off to bed, exhausted. The day had started so well, but being tailed by the Irish and then the shooting had drained every ounce of energy from us. That night, my bed felt like a sanctuary, and I didn’t take long to drift off into sleep.
The next morning, we all gathered in the dining room for breakfast. It was heartening to see everyone back on their feet, though some of our brothers still needed to take it easy. Fortunately, no one had sustained life-threatening wounds.
Talia sat perched on Theo’s lap, gently feeding him since he had been shot in the arm. The sight was tender—her nurturing side shining through despite the chaos around us.
“Dad, Leon,” Talia suddenly spoke up, drawing our attention. We all turned to our baby sister.
“Yes, Bambina?” Leon replied with a warm smile.
“I want to speak with some of the people we captured last night,” she said firmly, her expression serious. The room fell silent, the air thick with tension.
“Principessa, you don’t need to concern yourself with them,” Dad said cautiously.
“This isn’t a request, Dad. It’s an order,” Talia replied, her tone unwavering.
Damn it. We couldn’t say no. The women in our family wield the real power, and Talia, as the pure-blood princess, holds more authority than anyone else. They had to let her proceed.
“I’ll be with her in the cell, to make sure nothing happens to Talia,” I offered.
“As long as you don’t interfere, Nico, I’m fine with that,” Talia said, a small smile tugging at her lips.
“As you wish, Princess. But we’ll be watching closely from the observation room,” Grandpa added, and many of our brothers, sisters, her men, and the elders nodded in agreement.
“Okay. I want Alan and Tyler with me in the cell, along with Nico,” Talia declared, which seemed to ease some of the adults’ worries.
After finishing breakfast, we got ready. Talia changed into an outfit similar to the one she wore yesterday and took a bag with her.
The three of us—Talia, her two guards, and I—drove in my car, while the others followed in separate vehicles.
“What’s in the bag, Bambina?” I asked, glancing between her and the road.
“But don’t worry, Cillian won’t find out. You three won’t get the chance to tell him,” Talia said simply. The prisoners exchanged glances, then looked down.
“We never agreed with how Cillian treated you. We even formed a small group inside his organization to protect you. You don’t belong with a monster like him, Princess. His obsession with you is twisted,” one prisoner confessed, leaving Alan, Tyler, and me stunned.
“Do what you want with us. We’ll accept any punishment you see fit—even death,” another added, with the others nodding solemnly.
Talia was silent for a long moment, lost in thought.
“Leon, come in here,” she called suddenly. It wasn’t long before Leon stepped into the cell.
“Yes, Bambina?” he asked cautiously. What was she scheming now?
“I want to use these three to gather information about the people who oppose Cillian from the inside. Then we can take down Cillian’s mafia from within. In return, I want those opposing Cillian to join our family. Do I have your consent?” Talia asked Leon, her expression serious.
The prisoners stared at her with wide eyes once more.
“Do you trust that they’re telling the truth and not just trying to manipulate you?” Leon asked quietly.
Talia gave him a look that clearly said, Are you serious?
