Although he still looked visibly upset, she decided to comfort and console him. So, she took Charlie's arm and turned around to head back the way they came. As they walked, Charlie kept his head down, and Vera thought of ways to lighten his mood. She then asked him expectantly, “Young Master, do you think the Mother of Pu’er Tea has grown and sprouted more leaves over these past few days?”
Charlie casually replied, “She should have grown a bit, and as for the leaves, it shouldn't be a problem if a few more tender shoots sprout.”
Vera smiled and said, “Then, after we return, I'll pluck those newly sprouted tender shoots, dry them, and brew them for you to taste.”
Charlie asked her curiously, “Isn't the process of making Pu'er tea quite complicated? After processing, doesn't it need to be stored and fermented?”
Vera chuckled and said, “In fact, it can actually be drunk right after drying, though it will lack the fermented taste. However, it still has a fresh and mild flavor. Generally, only freshly picked tea leaves immediately processed for drying are good. The requirements for freshness and timing are quite strict, so most people don't get the chance to taste it.”
Charlie smiled as he teased her, “Weren't you very protective of the Mother of Pu’er Tea's leaves? Why are you so generous now?”
Vera blushed shyly and said softly, “The Mother of Pu’er Tea is so vigorous, plucking a bit shouldn't be a problem. Isn't that what you said, Young Master?”
Charlie was aware that Vera was trying to cheer him up, but he wasn't too troubled by the matter. He smiled and replied, “Let the Mother of Pu’er Tea's leaves grow well. If you pluck too many, you might have trouble sleeping.”
Vera shook her head earnestly and said, “I don't mind as long as you’re happy.”
Charlie smiled faintly and nodded slightly. He understood Vera's intentions and felt somewhat touched. He thought it was a bit embarrassing for him, a grown man, to be comforted by a young girl. So, he changed the subject, asking her about her plans.
