On one hand, these patriarchs wanted to pass on the position of the head of the family to their heirs in the future. Still, on the other hand, they tried to delay the inheritance as long as possible so that the heirs took the position early enough.
Moreover, they didn't want their heirs to show any excitement and expectation about inheriting the position, nor did they expect any usurpation before the inheritance.
If Julien had shown any sign of passion when his brothers flattered him, albeit a little bit, Harrison would have been furious, filled with anger and resentment toward him.
However, Julien's reaction exceeded his expectations, and in his view, it was nothing short of perfect.
Thanks to Charlie's advice, Julien composed himself, and the minute he entered the ward and saw Harrison on the bed, he immediately curled his lips down and donned a sad grimace.
With teary eyes, he walked quickly to the bed, knelt on one knee, looked at Harrison, and asked in a choking voice, "Dad! How are you? I'm so worried!"
"G-Good son..." Harrison stammered, touched. "I-I'm fine. D-Don't wor-r-ry."
After that, he sighed and muttered, "T-The doctor said that I-I am paralyzed on one side. H-He e-even said that i-it may be hard to fully recover."
"Impossible!" snapped Julien sorrowfully, albeit the fact that he was overjoyed. He turned to the doctor and asked anxiously, "Doctor! Can't you do anything about it?"
The doctor instantly explained, "Mr. Julien, no one in the world can fully recover from a stroke. Even a young and healthy athlete in his 20s can't fully recover from an injury, let alone an 80-year-old man from a severe stroke."
Julien was over the moon. The corners of his lips were about to curl up when Charlie's earnest voice abruptly echoed in his mind. He immediately looked down to hide his minute emotion from Harrison, took a short and deep breath to regain his composure, and affirmed in grief, "No, Dad, I can't. I'm not ready to take up the role, and we can't survive without your leadership. Focus on your recovery. We'll discuss this after you recover."
"N-No." Harrison shook his head. "I-I-I can't let anyone see me in this state. S-So, y-you'll take over and lead the family to-o-o move forward."
He sighed again and continued, "I-I've made up my mind. N-Nothing you say can change my mind."
Julien felt that he hadn't done enough, so he said again in a firm stance, "Listen to me! We'll talk about it when you get well! I'll do nothing in the meantime. I'll stay in New York, be by your side, and accompany you to go through rehabilitation."
"I-I-I'm so glad to hear that," Harrison beamed. "A-Alright then. G-Go back to your room. T-The others may still be on their way back. T-T-T-Tomorrow I'll have a family me-e-eeting, a-and I'll announce m-my decision."
