Without even a goodbye, Caleb stormed out of the hospital room in an absolute panic.
Shortly after, Eleanor and Michelle left as well.
Audrey looked up at Adrian, her eyes brimming with fresh tears.
"Adrian..."
Adrian was already at his breaking point, and her pathetic, whiny voice just tipped him over the edge.
"She is still my wife. Your father slapping her across the face is no different than him slapping me."
Audrey's tears spilled over, streaming down her cheeks.
"I didn't know my dad was going to hit her..."
"And what about after? When your dad was choking her, I didn't see you try to stop him."
"Adrian..." Audrey sobbed, sounding utterly heartbroken. "Didn't you see her hit me? My face is still throbbing!"
But Adrian couldn't bring himself to care about Audrey's face.
All he could hear was the sickening crack of Caleb's hand striking Jocelyn, and the sight of blood trickling from her lips.
"Adrian..."
"Once you're done with your postpartum recovery, you need to go back."
Audrey froze.
"Go back... where?"
"Back to the house you and Arthur shared," Adrian said flatly. "Don't worry, I'll hire plenty of staff to take care of you and the baby."
Audrey's voice shook violently.
"You're kicking me out? You're sending Leo away, too?"
Afraid he might cave if he looked at her, Adrian deliberately looked away.
"It's not appropriate for you to keep living at Oakhaven Estates. After all, that is my home with Jocelyn."
Audrey suddenly started screaming.
"But Leo is your son! Do you never want to see your own son again?!"
"Audrey." Adrian let out a long, heavy sigh. "I'm just asking you and Leo to move to the other house. I'm not kicking you out of the family. You and Leo are still Lowells. Leo is still the Lowell heir."
Audrey felt an overwhelming wave of devastation.
"But I don't want to leave you..."
"And I don't want to watch you two tear each other apart every single day."
Adrian was mentally exhausted, and the ugly truth finally spilled out.
"Audrey, I genuinely regret it. I regret ever having this child with you."
Audrey went totally numb.
"You... you regret it?"
No!
He was not going to divorce Jocelyn!
The ignored baby suddenly began wailing again.
And for the first time, Adrian felt absolutely zero desire to pick him up.
Audrey looked at him with agonizing desperation.
"Adrian, your son is crying for you..."
Adrian turned his back to her. "From now on, he is just my nephew. And I am his uncle."
He walked toward the door.
"Adrian! She knows everything we did! Do you honestly think she will ever forgive you?!"
Audrey screamed the words like a physical weapon.
Adrian paused in the doorway. He delivered his final, lethal blow without looking back.
"Audrey, I am never going to marry you."
...
In the Lowell family car, Carl, the driver, kept his eyes on the road, but the conversation from the backseat was impossible to ignore.
Michelle sounded panicked. "Mom, what if that bitch actually leaks the truth to the press?"
