The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 157

A flash of pure, murderous rage crossed Adrian's eyes.

"Maria, leave us alone. I need to speak to my wife. Do not come back in here unless I call for you."

"Just... please be careful with her, sir," Maria pleaded. "She's in a lot of pain."

"I know."

Once Maria was gone, Adrian reached out and pulled Jocelyn firmly into his arms.

"How can I make this right? What do you want?"

Jocelyn stayed completely rigid against his chest.

"Nothing."

"I'm going to wire you some money," Adrian insisted softly. "Buy yourself whatever you want. Get some rest. I know taking care of Maria must be draining your accounts. You're probably running low on cash."

Jocelyn thought to herself: "That is actually true. I am practically broke."

She tested the waters. "How much are you going to send me?"

"How much do you want?"

Jocelyn held up two fingers.

Given how notoriously cheap Adrian was with her, a $2 million allowance was the absolute absolute ceiling.

To her shock, Adrian actually laughed.

"Two? Or twenty?"

Jocelyn practically rolled her eyes and pushed herself out of his arms, faking annoyance.

"Keep your money."

Adrian's face softened, and he reached out to affectionately ruffle her hair.

"Twenty million. I'll have it transferred to your account immediately."

Twenty million!

Did she hear that right?!

Jocelyn was genuinely stunned. "Twenty million dollars?"

Adrian took her hand in his. "Is that too much, or too little?"

"I'm just... surprised. You've never given me anywhere near that kind of money before."

Jocelyn realized that Adrian had been initiating way more physical contact lately.

He seemed obsessed with being near her, touching her.

Was this what people called purely biological attraction?

"Then look me in the eye and tell me why you made up that ridiculous lie about Leo's paternity? Or do you actually have proof?"

Jocelyn glared at him, absolutely speechless, her stomach churning with rage.

But she bit her tongue.

If Adrian wanted to implicitly trust Audrey, let him.

She honestly couldn't wait to see the look on his face when he found out he really had been cuckolded.

Jocelyn grabbed her head, faking a grimace.

"I'm so dizzy. I need to go to sleep."

Adrian had wanted to stay longer, but his phone buzzed. It was Eleanor.

He gave a curt "Yeah" and hung up.

"My grandmother needs me."

He stood up. "If you don't want to go back to the house for the next few days, just stay here. I'll come check on you when I have time."

As he reached the door, Adrian paused, staring at Jocelyn for several long seconds as if debating whether to say something.

Jocelyn finally broke the silence. "Is there something else?"
