The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 195

"But since you're pregnant, he didn't want to risk heavy medication. We've just been using cold compresses to keep your temperature down."

Liam let out a heavy sigh of his own. "As for your dad... Diana took his ashes to the cemetery."

Jocelyn felt a violent twinge in her chest. "I need to go see him."

Liam immediately pushed her gently back against the pillows. "I am begging you, please just stop moving. Could you think about the baby for one second?"

That finally forced Jocelyn to go still.

Right. She had a baby depending on her.

Liam looked at her with genuine heartache. "Look at you. You're exhausted, you're injured, you're starving, and now you're running a fever. I have no idea how that kid is even surviving all this."

Sarah smacked his arm. "Watch your mouth! My godson is a fighter!"

"A fighter? The kid's practically going to war in there!" Liam shot back.

"And why do you get to claim him as your son?"

"Because Jocelyn is going to marry me one day, so obviously, he's going to be my kid."

Sarah rolled her eyes so hard it hurt. "Delusional."

Liam instinctively glanced at Julian before turning back to Jocelyn. "You signed the divorce papers. Don't ever go back to that house. Stay here. Sarah can move in with you so you guys can look out for each other."

Sarah lit up and clapped her hands. "That's a great idea! I'll pack my bags and move in tomorrow."

Jocelyn rubbed her pounding temples. "No, it's okay. For the next little while, I just really need to be alone."

Liam and Sarah exchanged a worried look.

Jocelyn let out a long, ragged exhale. "I know what you're both worried about, but I promise I'm not going to do anything stupid. I'll get through this."

She looked over at Julian. "Julian was right. My dad hasn't left me. He just found a different way to stay by my side. Someday, we'll see each other again."

Liam clicked his tongue loudly. "Wow. I pour my heart out and you ignore every word, but Julian says one pseudo-philosophical thing and it's your new religion. I see how it is."

Jocelyn simply didn't have the energy to joke back.

Seeing how completely drained she was, they decided to give her space.

Julian turned and left the apartment.

Maria stood by the door, staring at his retreating back. "What an incredible man." If only Miss Jocelyn had married a man like Mr. Vance instead of Adrian Lowell. How different her life could have been.

Out in the hallway, Liam and Sarah were waiting by the elevators.

Liam leaned against the wall, a wicked smirk playing on his lips. "Well, that went exactly as predicted."

"It's called karma," Sarah mocked coldly. "Adrian deserves every bit of it."

Liam turned to Julian. "Should we go public with the Caleb Preston files now?"

Julian glanced back at Jocelyn's closed door, the deep crease between his brows refusing to fade. "Not yet."

Liam frowned. "Why wait?"

"From what I've gathered, the Lowell family is throwing a massive celebration for their new 'heir' in a few days..."

Julian's dark eyes turned icy, glinting with lethal intent. "We'll save the files. It will be the perfect gift to present to Adrian—and the rest of the Lowell family."
