The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 234

"Let's just get some rest today. Going tomorrow won't change anything. After everything that's happened, I'm one hundred percent sure your mother is going to be perfectly fine."

Jocelyn shook her head.

"If I don't go today, I won't be able to sleep a wink tonight. I need to go. As long as I can see with my own eyes that she's safe, I won't care how exhausted I am. I'll just be happy."

"But your..."

Jocelyn knew what he was going to say and rested a hand on her stomach.

"I think the baby knows I'm going through a lot. He hasn't given me any trouble at all. I've been taking my meds on time, so everything should be fine."

"Even so..."

"Julian," Jocelyn leaned back against the headrest, tilting her head to look at him with a soft, pleading look. "Please let me go. Just this once?"

Julian couldn't say no to those clear, hopeful eyes.

"Alright, I'll take you. But on one condition: we get some food in you first."

Afraid she might argue, he added, "Do it for the baby."

Jocelyn nodded obediently. "Okay. Deal. We'll head out as soon as we eat."

Julian's easy compliance actually made Jocelyn feel a twinge of guilt.

She had slept reasonably well the night before.

But Julian probably hadn't gotten much sleep at all, and he had done all the driving when they headed back to the city.

Jocelyn genuinely felt bad for dragging him into this.

"Why don't you go home and get some rest? I can go by myself. I don't want to keep dragging you all over the place."

Julian gave a faint smile.

"I want to formally meet your mother. You should at least give me that honor."

Jocelyn smiled back. "Alright then. Let me buy you a nice dinner first to make up for it?"

Julian didn't decline. "Sounds like a plan."

The 'nice dinner' ended up being at a highly-rated specialty restaurant.

It served mostly Southeast Asian cuisine.

The interior was completely decked out to match the vibe.

Since it wasn't the weekend, it wasn't overly crowded, but the elegant ambiance still drew a decent crowd.
