Audrey persisted, "Then I'll just go with you."
Terrified he would say no, she quickly added, "Don't worry, you two can handle your business, and I won't get in the way. I'll just find a spot nearby and wait for you."
She grabbed his arm, swaying gently as she pleaded.
"Please, Adrian?"
Adrian just wanted her out of the room as fast as possible.
"Fine."
Thrilled, Audrey planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
"Then I'll let you get some rest! See you tomorrow."
It wasn't until the door clicked shut that Adrian finally felt like the world was quiet again.
His phone chimed with a text notification.
Adrian glanced at the screen and immediately chucked the phone across the room.
It was a text from Jocelyn: [I've e-filed the divorce papers.]
Followed by a second message: [Tomorrow at 3 PM. Remember to bring the transfer agreement. See you at the office.]
After sending the text, Jocelyn felt like a massive weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
Maria pushed the door open, holding something bright and unmistakable in her hand.
Julian's watch!
Jocelyn was both thrilled and stunned.
"You actually found it!"
Maria nodded. "I was doing a deep clean today and found it wedged between the sofa cushions. Must have slipped out of a pocket at some point."
Jocelyn threw her arms around Maria in excitement.
"Maria, that's amazing!"
Finally, she could face Julian.
"You should return it to Mr. Vance right away," Maria advised. "Something that important shouldn't be misplaced twice."
Jocelyn stared at the watch in her palm. She wanted to text him, but a wave of hesitation washed over her.
He hadn't reached out to her at all in the last two days. Was it because of what happened that night?
Did he think she was too easy?
Or maybe...
Maria's voice pulled Jocelyn back from her spiraling thoughts.
