Jocelyn shook her head.
"I'm not going."
Staying away was the best choice.
Penelope sighed.
"That might be for the best. Running into them would only cause awkwardness. Now that she's gone, the grudges between you can be written off. From now on, just focus on living a good life."
On the wall, the hands of the clock pointed exactly to eight o'clock.
An entire hour had passed.
Julian still hadn't arrived.
During the wait, Penelope had wanted to call him, but Jocelyn had stopped her.
She was worried Julian would think they were rushing him, and driving recklessly in a hurry wouldn't be safe.
The food on the table slowly grew cold.
Jocelyn finally couldn't hold back anymore and called Julian.
The phone went straight to voicemail.
Her heart tightened, and she immediately dialed Ethan.
Those two were practically joined at the hip.
The call connected quickly.
"Jocelyn?"
Jocelyn steadied her breathing. "Where is Julian?"
Ethan sounded surprised.
"Didn't he go to see you?"
Jocelyn froze. "He didn't show up."
Ethan: "How is that possible? We parted ways just before seven. He said he was going to change his clothes and head over to you. He should have arrived by now."
Too many bizarre things had happened over the last couple of days, putting Jocelyn on edge.
"He isn't here, and his phone is off."
Ethan grew tense as well.
"Off? That can't be right. Boss told me he was afraid you wouldn't be able to reach him in an emergency, so his phone is supposed to be on twenty-four seven."
Jocelyn was stunned.
There was no time to verify the truth of Ethan's words; she was simply consumed by worry.
"Is there any way you can locate him?"
Ethan: "I'll head over to the company to check right now. I'll let you know as soon as I have news."
Jocelyn: "Alright, thank you."
