The person was none other than Julian.
It wasn't until he had her locked tightly in his arms that everything finally felt real.
"Yeah, I'm back."
Jocelyn let her hands hang loosely by her sides, not daring to hug him back.
She was terrified that if she returned the embrace, she would never want to let go.
Soon enough.
Julian released her and inspected her carefully.
"Are you hurt?"
Jocelyn shook her head.
"I'm fine. Kyle protected me perfectly."
Julian looked over at Kyle.
"Good job."
Kyle offered a brisk nod and turned around to give them privacy.
A look of guilt washed over Julian's face.
"Penelope mentioned you barely ate anything tonight. Are you hungry?"
She hadn't realized it until he mentioned it, but now, her stomach actually felt a bit empty.
"A little."
"Let's head upstairs then. I'll make you something. You like pasta, right? I'll cook some for you."
Jocelyn offered a soft smile.
"But you aren't a big fan of pasta."
Julian froze for a second.
"How did you know?"
Jocelyn pointed at Kyle.
"He told me."
Julian shot Kyle a sideways glance.
Kyle scratched his head, completely bewildered.
Had he said something wrong?
Julian: "I really didn't care for it in the past, but I don't mind it now. People's tastes change over time."
Jocelyn chuckled.
"Tastes can change, sure, but not that quickly. If you don't like it, you don't like it. There's no need to force yourself."
"It's fine, it's not really..."
"Julian."
"Hmm?"
"I want fried eggs. I'll take two. But Kyle is the hero tonight, so make him four."
The faint crease between Julian's brows smoothed out slightly.
"Alright."
Kyle was visibly overwhelmed by the favor.
