The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 425

A wave of panic hit Caleb, but he maintained a facade of composure.

"Silly girl, it's probably just a misunderstanding, they've got the wrong guy. What are you panicking for? You're going to be the new Mrs. Lowell, you need to hold yourself together."

Audrey gasped for breath. "No, no, they have... they have..."

Before she could finish, the police officers closed in.

The lead officer held up an arrest warrant.

"Are you Caleb Preston?"

Caleb's tension was palpable.

"Hello, officers."

The officer's face was stern.

"This is an arrest warrant. We have evidence linking you to multiple criminal cases. Please come with us to the station immediately."

Caleb jolted in shock.

How was that possible!

He had destroyed all the evidence.

He always made sure his tracks were impeccably covered.

How could there be any evidence?

"Officers, there must be a mistake. I'm a law-abiding citizen. My corporation pays taxes on time every year, and I frequently donate to The Red Cross..."

"Save it. We wouldn't be here with a warrant if we didn't have solid proof. We don't wrong innocent people."

"Officers, you must have..."

"Take him away."

The officer didn't want to waste another second.

"Mr. Lowell." The officer then turned to Adrian. "We'll need you to come with us as well."

Adrian froze.

"Me?"

The officer explained.

"Don't worry, we just need you to come in and assist with the investigation. We've uncovered the truth behind your brother Arthur's death."

Adrian was stunned.

Audrey nearly collapsed beside him.

"What... what truth..."

The officer: "Everything will be explained at the station."

Adrian: "I'm sorry, but today is my grandmother's funeral. Can it wait until I've handled my family affairs?"

The officer looked around, considered it for a moment.
