The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 441

Two pairs of eyes stared at Julian, waiting for his answer.

Julian's Adam's apple bobbed before he finally spoke.

"Because I... I want to be the baby's godfather."

Huh?

Jocelyn wanted to respond, so she hurriedly swallowed the bite of sweet potato in her mouth.

Unfortunately, it went down the wrong pipe.

She started coughing violently.

A spray of crumbs flew right onto Julian's expensive suit.

Jocelyn was so mortified she wished the floor would swallow her whole, her entire face burning crimson.

Oh, God!

She had never been this embarrassed in her entire life!

Julian didn't even spare a glance at his ruined jacket. His only concern was Jocelyn as he handed her a glass of warm milk.

"Careful now," he murmured softly.

Jocelyn took a sip, letting the warm liquid soothe her throat.

"Why do you suddenly want to be the baby's godfather?"

Julian's expression had already returned to its usual calm, and he offered a faint smile.

"Is that not allowed?"

Jocelyn thought about it for a moment.

"It's not that you can't, but Liam already called dibs."

"He doesn't get the final say," Julian replied evenly.

Jocelyn couldn't help but laugh. "Then you'll have to take that up with him."

"Fine. I'll talk to him tomorrow."

Jocelyn blinked in surprise.

"What's the rush? It's still early."

Julian looked at her with striking earnestness.

"Time actually moves fast. It'll be here in the blink of an eye."

Jocelyn nodded slightly.

"True."

Somehow, the conversation had naturally drifted to this point.

Jocelyn turned her head and looked at Julian.

He was sitting on the stool right next to her.

His elbows rested on his thighs, leaning forward with his gaze fixed on the floor, lost in thought.

Looking at him, Jocelyn suddenly remembered two lines she had read in a book.

*You are like the night, possessing both the silence and the stars.*

*Your silence is that of a star, remote and brilliantly bright.*

Of course, it wasn't her place to say something like that out loud.

But the thought came unbidden, impossible to ignore.
