"But her actions today really let me down," Ethan grumbled. "How could she just walk off with Adrian Lowell like that?"
Sarah pressed her lips together. "I'm sure she has her reasons."
"Even if she does, she shouldn't have gone with Adrian! She has no idea how desperate the boss was when he couldn't find her. I've never seen him like that before. He was completely frantic, completely lost."
"He literally ran out of options and actually had to call Adrian for help. Adrian Lowell! The man's his absolute sworn enemy, and the boss completely swallowed his pride just to beg him for any news about Miss Evans."
Sarah didn't say a word, her heart twisting with guilt. She wasn't upset that Julian had gone to such lengths for Jocelyn.
She was sick to her stomach over the horrible things she had said to Jocelyn earlier.
Even though every word of it was true, she had spit them out with so much venom. It was pure jealousy, resentment, and a deep-seated bitterness.
She was bitter that despite her elite background, her brains, and her beauty, a man like Julian would never look at her twice. He only ever engaged with her on strictly professional terms. He never initiated small talk. The very first time he had ever called her personally, it had been entirely about Jocelyn.
That was why Sarah had been so furious.
But sitting here now, she was drowning in regret.
Jocelyn hadn't known anything about it. She was entirely innocent in this. What did she do to deserve Sarah lashing out like that?
Sarah internally cursed herself. You really made a fool of yourself. And the way you treated Liam... god, you're a mess.
Back at the apartment, a sweet, comforting aroma drifted from the kitchen.
Moments later, Jocelyn emerged carrying a steaming bowl of Sweet Soup, setting it gently on the table.
Julian stared at it. "What is this?"
"Sweet Soup. I found the ingredients in the fridge and whipped it up. Gideon must have bought them when he was crashing here."
That punk really knew how to stock a kitchen. Gideon had planned on mooching off her for a while, so he'd bought a ton of groceries. Too bad he got booted out after a couple of days.
Actually, 'booted out' was a very accurate description of what happened.
Julian took a small spoonful. "It's delicious."
Jocelyn smiled softly. "Then finish the whole bowl. It's really good for soothing the stomach, and..."
She suddenly stopped, realizing the rest of the sentence might be a little awkward.
