The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 499

Adrian bristled the moment he heard the name.

"You're standing at the edge of the grave, and you're still obsessing over him?"

Claire braced her hands against the mattress, trying to push herself up.

But her body was so weak that she began to violently tremble.

Watching her stubbornly grit her teeth, Adrian reached out on pure instinct and helped her sit up.

Claire leaned back against the headboard, her lips quivering as she gasped for air.

"I love him."

Adrian scoffed, utterly repulsed by the word.

"Do you even know what love is?"

Claire stared right back at him. "Do you?"

Adrian's jaw tightened in irritation.

"You will never know what real love is," Claire said softly. "To you, it's just about possession and control."

"Claire." Adrian's voice dropped dangerously low. "I didn't come here to be lectured."

Claire instantly backed down.

Showing a rare flash of docility and self-awareness.

"Just for the sake of the years we spent as siblings, do this one last thing for me."

Adrian was completely opposed to the idea.

Julian had made it painfully clear he despised Claire, so why would he ever agree to see her?

Was Adrian supposed to go and beg him?

Absolutely not.

"I know Grandma left me an inheritance," Claire continued, her voice weak but steady. "She told me once that even if I never got married, I'd always be set for life because she had built a nest egg for me."

A bitter, self-deprecating smile touched her lips.

"But I know I'll never see a dime of that money."

As Claire's piercing gaze locked onto his, a sudden chill ran down Adrian's spine.
