The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 60

Jocelyn was surprised. "Thank me for what?"

"Thank you for being so honest with me. It seems that from now on, we are truly friends."

With that one sentence, he successfully dispelled all of Jocelyn's awkwardness.

Back in the car, Julian's expression grew increasingly grim.

Ethan had never seen him look so serious and asked cautiously, "Sir, is... something on your mind?"

Julian collected his thoughts.

"Ethan."

"Yes, Mr. Vance."

"Have you ever been in love with someone?"

Ethan was stunned for a couple of seconds. "Huh?"

"Or, have you ever had a crush on someone?"

Ethan thought seriously for a moment. "In high school, I did have a crush on the girl who sat in front of me."

That's why he would always tease her, to get her attention.

"But we were young then. We didn't really know if it was real love."

Julian leaned back against the seat, turning to look out the window as his thoughts drifted again.

"If someone you used to have feelings for reappeared in your life years later, would you pursue them?"

"I'm not sure. After so many years, a lot of things can change."

The man in the back seat fell silent again.

Ethan felt that something was off.

"Sir, what's with you today? You don't seem like your usual self."

"And what am I usually like?"

"Composed, decisive, always rational. But today..."

Julian turned his gaze from the window, leaned back, and closed his eyes.

"What about today?"

"Today you seem very... sentimental."

"Perhaps."

"Sir, why did you suddenly ask me about crushes?"

"No reason, it's just..."

"Go on."

"I'm planning to move my career to Northwood City."

Hailey's lifelong dream had been to become an actress.

As the beloved daughter who had been doted on by her parents since she was little, her family naturally supported her wish.

So, the investor for Hailey's first movie was Preston Industries.

Now, Hailey was a household name in Austin.

But in the mainland US, far fewer people knew of her.

Julian's expression was neutral. "Why the sudden decision to come to Northwood City?"

"It's not a sudden decision. I've been thinking about it for a long time. I think... we should be together."

Julian didn't reply immediately, just slowly pushed his emotions into the deepest part of his heart.

Hailey's voice came through again. "Julian, there's a question I've always wanted to ask you."

"Yes?"

"The reason you agreed to our engagement back then... was it purely out of your mother's dying wish?"
