The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 82

"Oh," was all Jocelyn could say.

Alright then.

It seemed her experience in this area was lacking.

Julian gallantly helped Sarah into the car.

Jocelyn stood by and watched the entire time.

In the car, Sarah slept soundly.

Liam, however, wouldn't stop mumbling.

He was only spitting out a few words at a time, so it was impossible to know what he was saying.

Until...

"Jocelyn! I dare you to get a divorce! Let me chase you one more time! I refuse to believe I can't win you over!"

Though Jocelyn didn't take his drunken words seriously, she really wanted to shut him up.

"Jocelyn! Jo! You..."

Julian chuckled. "Should I pull over so you can gag him?"

Jocelyn said helplessly, "Forget it. He's just drunk and talking nonsense."

"A drunk mind speaks a sober heart," Julian noted.

Jocelyn, however, was clear-headed. "He's just bitter."

A man who was used to women chasing him had his first proposal end in public humiliation, a story that had been passed around as a joke.

It would be strange if he wasn't bitter.

After dropping off Liam, they took Sarah home.

Once Sarah was on her comfortable bed, she started taking off her clothes.

Before Jocelyn could even stop her, her collar was wide open.

For the first time, Julian looked genuinely uncomfortable.

He spun around, looking like he wanted to bolt out the door.

Jocelyn quickly said, "Why don't you wait in the living room? I'll change her into her pajamas."

"Okay," Julian said, his back still to her.

Soon, the bedroom door closed.

Jocelyn pinched Sarah's cheek.

"I really want to see the look on your face when you wake up and realize what you've done."

As she turned to leave, Jocelyn's gaze froze.

On the desk was a cardboard box.

The caller ID read: Hailey Preston.

That must be the fiancée mentioned in Julian's profile.

A famous star from Austin, and also the heiress of Preston Industries.

She came from a prominent family, graduated from a top university with excellent grades, spoke multiple languages, and had participated in numerous charities. She had a pretty good reputation in Austin.

From her photos, her looks and figure were flawless.

This was a true match made in heaven.

Jocelyn was still wondering if Julian would answer.

To her surprise, he casually pressed the answer button.

Their conversation flowed right into her ears.

Hailey: "Julian, are you busy?"

Julian: "About to drive. What's up?"

Hailey: "I was thinking about you, so I gave you a call."

So direct, without any pretense.

Jocelyn felt a little awkward.

Was it really okay to be eavesdropping on a couple's sweet nothings like this...
