The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 85

Jocelyn paced in front of her apartment door for a long time without going in.

This was her first time at this apartment.

She hadn't realized the front door had a keypad lock.

And she didn't know the code.

She had two options.

One was to call a locksmith.

The other was to ask Adrian.

After thinking it over, she really didn't want to call a locksmith.

So she called Adrian.

The phone rang until it was about to go to voicemail before someone finally picked up.

But it wasn't Adrian's voice.

It was Audrey's.

Jocelyn couldn't even be bothered to ask why she was answering Adrian's phone. She got straight to the point.

"Put him on."

Audrey's voice was laced with a triumphant smile. "Adrian had a bit too much to drink with my dad tonight. He just fell asleep."

"Please wake him up," Jocelyn said.

"I don't think that's a good idea. Adrian hates being woken up. He specifically told me not to let anyone disturb his sleep."

"I need to talk to him."

"Adrian's not in a good mood today," Audrey said. "I really think you should leave him alone."

Jocelyn muttered a curse under her breath, then suddenly laughed darkly.

"He must be in a bad mood, having the prize snatched right from under his nose. I imagine your father is pretty upset, too."

Audrey's voice turned cold. "How did you know that!"

She vividly remembered the night they had spent together, entangled from dusk till dawn, for the sake of a child.

The memory of that exquisite pleasure constantly replayed in her mind.

Audrey's breathing grew heavy, her eyes glazed over with desire as she lost herself in her own fantasy.

She hated it. Because she had just given birth, she couldn't yet join the man she wanted in bed again.

In the end, Jocelyn called a locksmith to open the door.

While he was there, she had the code reset.

That night, lying in bed, Jocelyn felt a sense of ease she hadn't experienced in a long time.

The apartment was finally hers.

Having a place to call her own meant having a shelter from the storm, and with it, a sense of security.

Jocelyn slept soundly.
