Staring at Nova, Maxwell and Jannah momentarily forgot the five corpses lying before them.
In that instant, they felt they had stepped into Nova’s real world. Their hearts ached faintly for her.
They witnessed a girl trapped in hell breaking her chains in a bloodbath and returning to the human world to seek her family. And in the end, she willingly sank back into the mud to protect those she loved.
She had charged through gunfire, ignoring life and death, all to save them from danger.
“Novie…” Maxwell coughed lightly. He gritted his teeth and straightened his frame, his abdomen still throbbing from the fugitive’s kick. “I’m sorry. We were so useless, Making you take such risks…
He and Hannah had never wanted to be involved. They knew the hidden fugitives at school were far stronger than them, so they chose to avoid confrontation.
But they never expected things to go this far. On their way home, nine fugitives ambushed and used them as bargaining chips to threaten Nova.
What shocked Maxwell even more was Nova facing five armed enemies empty-handed and winning. Her strength was far beyond those fugitives.
Maxwell was utterly floored. ‘Could her skills really come from being a war correspondent?’ he thought.
“Idiot…” Lying beside Maxwell, Hannah whispered, then turned over to hide her face as tears streamed down her face.
Maxwell and Hannah were still tied up. Hannah curled up like a shrimp, wiping her tears on her shoulder. The usually proud girl didn’t want anyone to see her crying like this.
She looked up at Nova, her voice trembling. “You big dummy! I told you not to come. You almost died just now. With all those guns pointed at you… You… You…”
Hannah’s nose turned red. In her world, besides Maxwell and her parents, no one would risk their life for her.
Family was everything to Hannah, and up until now, she hadn’t truly seen Nova as family. Yet Nova had come without hesitation.
Hannah’s heart swelled with a mix of gratitude and fear, turning her concern into scolding. She sniffed as she said. “Are you stupid? After all I said to you, you still came to save me… You… You are really-”
Nova cut in flatly, “I didn’t come to save you.”
She stepped forward, a silver flash in her hand as she swiftly sliced through the ropes binding Maxwell.
With surprising strength, she lifted the tall Maxwell with one hand and walked straight toward the passage, ignoring Hannah, who remained tied up.
Hannah, who had been secretly crying moments before, froze in place.
As Nova reached the passage entrance, she saw Jordan, Waylon, and the other team members standing stunned.
Jordan was totally dumbfounded, thinking, ‘Nova took down all the fugitives alone. So…. We are extras in this mission?’
When Nova strolled over, Jordan snapped back to reality, shrugging his shoulders as if rebooting. “Uh… Nova, are you going
home now?”

aya glam cd at þau. “Something else?”
Used to let gold manner, Jondan didn’t beat around the bush. “Yeah. I actually need to talk to you about something. Can you wait downstairs later?” He needed to process the scene first.
“Fine” Nova replied.
As she went downstairs, faint spunds drifted from above-Jordan untying Hannah. Hannah’s hurried footsteps following. and the others checking the bodies
“They’re all unfamiliar faces. I’ve never seen them at school. They deliberately kept a low profile and hid their identities.” Jordan’s assessing voice was audible.
They had uncovered the fugitives’ disguises, but Nova had no interest in the dead men’s appearances,
As they headed down the stairs, Maxwell asked, “Is Jordan Cox the hidden expert Zane mentioned?”
When Zane first found Maxwell and suggested they drop the whole rivalry between the two clubs to join forces against those hidden fugitives at SLRA, he had revealed Jordan’s identity.
Nova nodded. “Yes.”
Maxwell said seriously, “Novie, you’re strong, but be careful dealing with these people!”
Knowing his worry was futile, Nova still replied softly, like a younger sister relying on her brother, “I know, Max.”
Her sweet voice made Maxwell feel she was just an ordinary girl, and he couldn’t help but affectionately ruffle her hair.
By the time Jordan and the team finished verifying the bodies, it was already 8:30 p.m.
Hannah and Maxwell went home first. Before leaving, Maxwell reminded Nova to return as soon as she was done.
On the first floor of the abandoned building, Jordan hurried over. “Sorry to keep you waiting. Waylon and the others are still handling the bodies. I heard from your brother that you have a 9 p.m. curfew?”
Nova’s profile was delicate, her demeanor carrying an unrivaled pride. “Yeah, family rules.” A slight smile touched her lips at the word “family”
Jordan was stunned, thinking, ‘Such a powerful figure actually obeys a household curfew? She’s not like I imagined.
He quickly got to the point. “The mission succeeded thanks to you. Payment will be transferred to your bank account.”
[
He paused, then continued, “During my undercover work at SLRA, I gathered a lot of intel. We eliminated these fugitives, but there are even more cunning and stronger ones.”
“Some of them are even major international figures. I’ll continue my undercover work at SLRA and contact you if I need your assistance.”
He flashed a grin, adding, “Same payment
terms.”
Suddenly, Nova looked up sharply. Her cold eyes pierced through the darkness like a waking beast, locking precisely onto the rooftop of the third building to the left.
Hidden in the shadows atop that roof, a man and a woman observed Nova through binoculars, watching with keen interest. They were the more formidable hidden fugitives at SLRA Jordan had just mentioned. Utterly different from those fugitives

They had witnessed every moment of the fight inside the building, thinking disdainfully, ‘What a bunch of fools! Getting wiped out by a teenage girl”
Just as they were about to withdraw, they were startled to see Nova downstairs, as if equipped with radar, suddenly looking up toward them. Her icy gaze stabbed directly at their hiding spot.
The hidden man and woman were shocked. Their hearts lurched. They couldn’t believe it. With their skills, Nova had actually detected their surveillance in an instant.
