The Mercenary Queen Strikes Back (Lily Hastings) novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67

Hannah’s tone was full of hostility, unsure if she was explaining to Nova or just venting.

Hannah continued, “Over twenty years ago, they looked down on Dad for having no martial arts talent and ganged up to kick him out of the main family. They even said he didn’t deserve to be a part of the Blake family.

“A couple years ago, when they heard Dad’s business in Ravenport took off, they tried to ask us back. It’s disgusting!”

Hot-tempered, Hannah stormed into the living room and yelled at the elderly man in dark suit on the sofa, “How dare you come here? Didn’t you get enough of an earful last time? Get lost, now!”

The elderly man, Hudson Blake, had neatly combed-back hair and was flanked by two cool, sunglasses-wearing bodyguards.

“Hannie, enough!” Charles turned and scolded sharply.

Though he stopped Hannah’s outburst, Nova saw Hannah biting her lower lip, tears welling in her eyes, looking both furious and wronged-clearly still resentful.

Maxwell’s expression was equally somber, but he remained calmer than Hannah. Seeing Nova’s confusion, he leaned in and explained in a low voice.

The main family of Blake family was in Morales. It had been influential since the 1920s-30s. Back then, it wasn’t involved in business. It was known for founding the “Blake Martial Arts School.”

During times of war, martial arts were highly respected, cementing the family’s status.

Over a century of change, martial arts schools lost their influence. The main family blended ancestral martial arts with contemporary needs and founded “Blake Security Group” in Fergus, the provincial capital of Morales.

The company was now nationally renowned, ranking among the top three on Morales’ wealth list.

Charles was a descendant of the group’s president.

The main family focused on bodyguard services and handled various security operations, placing great importance on combat skills like fighting, boxing, and free combat.

But Charles had no talent for martial arts and was humiliated by the main family members for years. Over two decades ago, he was driven out as worthless.

In Ravenport, the Blake Group that Charles built from scratch naturally had nothing to do with the security industry. Likely, the main family had learned of his business success and sent people repeatedly to persuade him.

Hudson was the main family’s butler. He had come to invite Charles and Fiona back for a visit.

After learning these things, Nova understood why Hannah was so agitated.

Hudson knew it was best not to overstay. He spoke to Charles, “Charles, I watched you grow up. I know you hold grudges against the main family, but family bonds outweigh past grievances. And I know better than anyone how much you want to

return.

“Your father’s 80th birthday is coming up. You can bring your children back and let the family see what they’re capable.

“They don’t need to be exceptional. I believe the family will welcome you back. Charles, this is a rare opportunity, consider it carefully.”

Hudson truly understood Charles’ thoughts. He wasn’t there to cause trouble. He had come specifically to extend an olive

branch

After speaking, he nodded at Charles and Fiona, then left with his bodyguards.

Nova watched Hudson’s departing back with a slight narrowing of her eyes, her expression unreadable.

Soon, the sound of Bentley Mulsanne’s engine came from outside as the car drove off.

Even a butler could ride in a luxury car worth around half a million dollars–proof of the main family’s immense wealth in Morales.

By comparison, Charles’ Blake Group, however successful, seemed overshadowed.`

In the face of such top-tier families, wealthy families were more like outsiders crashing a billionaire’s club.

Nova felt no pressure. She walked over to her thoughtful parents and saw them both deep in thought, heads bowed.

“Nova? You came back with Max and Hannie?” Fiona, seated in her wheelchair, tried to lighten the mood. “Don’t worry. nothing. Dinner will be ready soon. You-”

It’s

Suddenly, her gaze fell on Ghost-Hammer, and she asked curiously, “This is..”

Just as Ghost-Hammer was about to answer, Nova said, “This is Gust Hamm, my colleague. He has looked out for me over the years. He came to see me today, so I invited him to stay with us for a few days.”

The made-up name “Gust Hamm” left Ghost-Hammer utterly baffled.

“Oh, hello, Mr. Hamm. Thank you so much for taking care of Nova all this time,” Fiona said sincerely.

Charles, however, was distracted. After hesitating, he stood up abruptly. “Tomorrow is my father’s 80th birthday. I have to go back. It’s a long way from Ravenport to Fergus. I need to set off now.”

He paused, then said firmly, “Don’t need to worry. I won’t take any of you with me.”

With that, he turned to go upstairs and pack.

Truthfully, bringing Maxwell and Hannah along might have given Charles a real chance to return to the main family. It was his lifelong wish. But he couldn’t bear to subject his children to potential humiliation.

ľ “Dad, I’m going too.” Hannah rushed in front of Charles, blocking his way as she saw his resolute expression.

She said seriously, “Max and I have trained for years since we were kids. For what? Just to show those snobs in the main family that the children raised by the father they kicked out are no worse than them!”

She glanced at Nova, as if suddenly gaining more confidence, and added, “And now we even have Nova.”

Truth was, Hannah wasn’t sure if Nova would actually join them.

Maxwell nodded solemnly. “Dad, let’s go together.”

Seeing Hannah and Hannah standing their ground, Nova spoke, “Count me in.” She could clearly feel the two relax upon hearing her words.

“Have you all really thought this through?” Charles looked at his three children as if mustering all his strength. “No regrets?”

You’ve never been to the main family, and you have no idea how terrifying their strength is. Over twenty years ago, they already had many combat geniuses. Each at the level of top-tier bodyguards.

“And over the years, they’ve sat a group of talented youths to compete in international underground circuits just to unlock their potential.

“I’ve heard that the strongest genius has already reached a fearsome position internationally ranked within the top 2099 on the mercenary leaderboard
