Chapter 96
Chapter 96
When Oliver asked his question, Nova just crossed her arms.
Her tone was playful, as if she was genuinely trying to recall what Bloodforge looked hike. “Well..”
Soon enough, her eyes sparkled with mischief she lied, all serious and focused. She said coolly, “Of course she’s beautiful
Without the slightest hint of embarrassment, she shamelessly praised herself in front of Oliver, like it was nothing at all.
But Oliver didn’t doubt her for a second. He looked like a starstruck kid, eyes wide and excited as he blinked at her.
“Really?” he stammered.
“I mean, my idol, Blood… is she, uh, as pretty as you?”
Andrew walked over and pulled Oliver aside. “Hey, man, aren’t you asking a bit too much?”
He stepped right between Nova and Oliver, acting all protective as he chimed in without missing a beat.
“Come on, didn’t Nova say she only crossed paths with Blood once?
“You’re digging way too deep, dude. Isn’t that a bit much?”
Oliver finally caught on. He ducked his head, looking a bit embarrassed, and awkwardly muttered, “Uh… sorry, I wasn’t really paying attention at first.”
While they were chatting, the looks on everyone else’s faces kept/shifting like the seasons-turning winter then summer in the blink of an eye..
It was pure chaos-faces showing every emotion under the sun.
Nova defusing the AK-18 timed bomb right there in front of everyone had truly left them reeling.
One by one, they were all just left totally stunned.
But if anyone was hit the hardest, it was definitely Violet.
୮ She’d thought that by pulling some strings to sneak the AK-18 timed bomb into Nova’s team, they’d just give up on their
Own.
But she never expected that the one she’d always underestimated, Nova, would actually defuse the AK-18.
And not only that, this teenage girl even knew Bloodforge, the creator of the AK-18.
Violet felt like she’d just downed five shots of pure misery–her pride was gutted and her gut twisted like she’d swallowed something nasty.
“Violet, she…”
The girl clinging to Violet’s side could barely get the words out.
She was stammering so much she couldn’t even finish her sentence.

His phone started ringing loud and clear from his pocket.
“Uh, sorry, everyone. I need to take this, the selection officer said, pulling out his phone and stepping aside.
He was back in no time, but when he returned, Nova noticed his expression suddenly looked unusually serious.
Lake hed just gotten some miajor bad news.
She just shoved her hands in her pockets, looking totally unbothered as she waited.
Just like she’d figured, after a brief pause, the selection officer addressed everyone.
“Everyone, I’ve just gotten word from higher-ups. The task force selection event we had planned is canceled.”
The selection officer’s words had everyone in the front who’d been all geared up blurting out an “Ah?” in utter disbeber “Did something happen, boss? Why’d you suddenly scrap the task force election?” a tall guy called out from the crowd
“Seriously? We spent ages getting ready for this. Why’d you have to pull the plug now?” chimed in a woman who was so skin and bones she looked like she hadn’t eaten in days.
Next to Nova, Andrew, Oliver, and Leanne all wore the same disappointed look.
Most of the folks here had gone all out prepping for this selection-nobody came half-hearted.
Some had spent a year or two grinding hard, all for a shot at making it into the task force.
They weren’t like Nova, who was a wildcard tossed into the mix at the last minute.
After slogging for years to hone their skills, finally seeing their dream within reach there was no way they’d just give it up without a hugu
Nova just listened quietly as the selection officer went on.

the task force selection itself isn’t canceled, only the previously planned tasks are scrapped,” he

He cleared his throat and confsqued, “Here’s the situation. We just received an agent mission from higher-ups, and now we need to bring in some fresh faces for the task force to handle it.
“Most of the previous team members have already shown up on the international scene, so they’re not the right pick for run
assignment
“What we need now are new faces-fresh blood.
“Here’s the deal…
“Your task force selection just shifted gears-it’s no longer a friendly competition, but a real operation. You’re heading straight into an actual mission.
“This job is SS-level, the toughest out there. And where’s it going down? Trinova.
“Make one mistake and you could be gone for good. So, whether you want to step up or step out-it’s your chance
“If you can prove yourself in this mission-perform outstandingly, maybe even help us nail it-you’ll get officially recruited to the task force, no questions asked.
“From now on, instead of just four spots, there’s no cap on the number of recruits. Anyone who steps up and delivers gets in.”
After the selection officer finished talking, everyone out on the open patch in front of the container just froze, like statues, barely able to process what they’d heard.
SS-level mission!
By mission classification, that was the kind of nightmare job that could eat you alive-and get you killed if you shipped up.
Even the most seasoned task force members would break a/sweat taking on something like this.
And keep in mind, even the old task forces with tons of joint combat experience would have a hard time with a mission like
this.
For newbies like these, who hadn’t even made it through the front door yet, this was pure
hell-level difficulty.
“Hiss-”
The whole crowd drew a sharp breath.
No one could tell whether they were more freaked out by how insane the mission was-or just stunned at being tossed headfirst into a real battlefield.
Andrew, Oliver, and Leanne looked as pale as death as the reality of it all sank in.
But if there was one person here who’d barely cared about the whole task force selection from the outset, it was Nova-and now, she was practically radiating anticipation.
“Trinova, huh…” Nova’s eyes sparkled, a hint of excitement burning under that cool exterior.
“That place? It’s the ultimate playground for every dirty vice you can name-drugs, gambling, flesh trade. Straight-up sin city, no joke.”
