Five Days 2-

Sonia leaned forward slightly, resting her chin lightly against her hand, her gaze fixed on him with clear interest.
“And what exactly does it explain?” she asked, her voice softer now, more probing.
Caleb met her eyes.
“Your confidence,” he replied without hesitation.
Her smile widened.
Satisfied.
But Caleb’s mind was already moving ahead.
Analyzing.
Connecting.
Because the more he learned-
The less he trusted.
And yet, he kept the conversation going, asking questions, guiding the interaction, playing his role perfectly, giving nothing away while taking in everything she offered.
All the while-
A plan was forming.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Because once this dinner was over-
He would not wait.
He would not hesitate.
He would make sure Iva was protected.
No matter what it took.
Because now-
This was no longer just about truth.
Or bonds.
Or destiny.
This was about survival.

And Caleb had no intention of losing.
Claim
Caleb kept his expression composed, his posture relaxed, his movements smooth and controlled as the dinner continued under the soft glow of the terrace lights, but beneath that carefully crafted exterior, his mind remained sharp, observant, dissecting every word Sonia spoke, every gesture she made, every detail she revealed.
He waited for the right moment.
And then-
He steered the conversation exactly where he wanted it.
“You said you are the Messenger,” Caleb began, his tone casual, almost curious, as he lifted his glass slightly before setting it back down, his eyes meeting hers with calculated interest. “When did you realize
it?”
Sonia’s reaction was immediate.
Her posture straightened subtly.
Her lips curved into a smile-one filled with importance, with pride, with something that almost looked… rehearsed.
“After my birthday,” she said smoothly. “My eighteenth birthday. Just a week ago.”
Caleb nodded slowly, encouraging her to continue.
“I felt it,” she added, her voice soft but certain. “After I shifted… everything changed. I just knew that I was different. That I am… what I am.”
Her gaze held his, confident.
Too confident.
Caleb gave a thoughtful hum, his expression neutral, but inside-
He was already comparing.
Iva.
The way she had described it.
The hesitation.
The confusion.
The overwhelming flood of sensations she had struggled to understand, to put into words.
Not certainty.
Not immediate clarity.

But something far more complex.
“Far more real.
His fingers tightened slightly under the table, unnoticed.
Still, he continued.
“And how do you know?” he asked, his tone steady, curious. “Who is mated with whom?”
Sonia didn’t hesitate.
Not even for a second.
Claim
“I just know,” she replied easily, almost too easily, her voice flowing smoothly like a well-practiced line. “It’s like a pull… like I can see it. Matches. Connections.”
She gestured lightly near her temple.
“Like an image in my head.”
Perfect.
Too perfect.
Caleb’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly.
Because something was missing.
Something crucial.
Something he had not known himself-until recently
The red thread.
The thread of fate that connected true fated mates.
A detail so obscure, so buried in forgotten history, that even the Council had overlooked it, that only a deeply hidden, ancient scroll had mentioned it, a fragment of truth lost in time unless one knew exactly what to search for. Even himself find out about it the first time from Iva, before burying, himself in the library and searching for information. And he find it because he knew what he was searching for exactly.
And Sonia-
Had not mentioned it.
Not even indirectly.
Not even by accident.
Caleb’s hands curled into fists beneath the table, his pulse steady but his blood beginning to boil, realization settling in with cold, sharp precision.
She’s lying.
The certainty hit him hard.

Inside his mind, Chaos erupted.
“Impostor.”
The growl was low.
Dangerous.
“Let’s kill her.”
Claim
Caleb inhaled slowly, forcing control, forcing calm, forcing the rage back down before it could show even the slightest crack on his face.
“Keep it together,” he murmured internally, his voice firm, commanding. “She’s not doing this alone.”
A pause.
Then, colder-
“This is bigger than her.”
Chaos did not like it.
But it listened.
For now.
Caleb leaned back slightly, his expression unchanged, his mask perfectly in place as he returned to the conversation like nothing had shifted, like nothing had just been confirmed in his mind.
But everything had.
And now-
He needed to move carefully.
Very carefully.
After a few more minutes of controlled conversation, Caleb placed his glass down and straightened slightly.
“I’m afraid we need to cut this short,” he said, his tone polite but firm. “Tomorrow I have an important merger to attend.”
Sonia’s reaction was immediate.
