The Messenger( Iva) novel Chapter 162

Long Overdue Discussion II-3

Yes… his explanations made sense.

Yes… the situation was far more complicated than she imagined.

Yes… the idea that someone had impersonated both the Messenger and his mate at the same time was enough to shake anyone’s understanding of reality.

And yet…

Something inside her held back.

Because words were one thing.

Actions… were everything.

Her gaze dropped for a brief moment, her fingers curling slightly at her sides as she processed it all, weighing everything he told her against everything she had lived through these past days, the pain, the confusion, the loneliness.

Caleb watched her carefully.

He didn’t need her to speak.

He could read it on her face.

The hesitation.

The doubt.

The need for something more… something real.

His jaw tightened slightly, not in anger this time, but in determination, and he took a slow step closer, his voice losing its sharpness, turning deeper, more grounded.

“Give us one more chance, Iva.”

The words were simple.

But they carried something raw.

Something honest.

Her eyes lifted to meet his again, caught off guard by the tone, by the lack of arrogance, by the absence of command.

“You deserve better,” he continued, his gaze steady, unwavering. “And I need a chance to fix this… to mend my mistakes.”

A small pause followed.

And then, quieter-

“Please.”

That single word did something to her.

Something unexpected.

Because Caleb did not strike her as the kind of man who asked.

And yet… here he was.

Her heart wavered.

Avalon stirred softly within her, no longer agitated, but attentive.

“He means it,” her wolf murmured.

Iva swallowed, her defenses lowering just slightly, enough for warmth to slip through the cracks, enough for hope-dangerous, fragile hope-to resurface.

“…OK,” she said softly.

Caleb’s shoulders eased almost imperceptibly, something in his expression relaxing for the first time since he appeared in her room.

But then-

A flicker of something darker returned.

Not threatening.

Not angry.

His lips curved slowly, a wicked hint of amusement flashing in his eyes as he tilted his head slightly.

“You know…” he murmured, his gaze dropping briefly to her lips before returning to her eyes, “you still deserve more punishment.”

Iva blinked.

And then flushed instantly, heat rushing to her face as the implication hit her without mercy, her mind betraying her with vivid flashes of their earlier… punishment.

“C-Caleb-”

Her protest came out weak, breathless, completely undermined by the way her body reacted, by the way her pulse spiked, by the way Avalon practically purred inside her.

His smirk deepened, clearly satisfied with her reaction, but before she could recover-or argue-he glanced at his watch, his expression shifting back to something more focused.

“But… it will need to wait. Get ready.”

The sudden change left her confused.

“Get ready?” she asked, her brows knitting slightly as she tried to follow his train of thought.

Galeb looked back at her, his gaze steady, decisive.

We have à full moon to catch.”

Her breath hitched-

The test.

The proof.

Everything they had been circling around since the beginning.

But before she could even fully process that-

He added, almost casually, yet with undeniable weight:

“And second…”

A small pause.

“It’s time for you to meet my family.”
