The Truth 1-1
Iva woke to warmth.
Not the artificial warmth of blankets or firelight, but something deeper. Something that seeped into her bones and wrapped around her heart like a second skin. She was nestled against something solid and steady, and for a long, beautiful moment, she didn’t open her eyes. She just breathed.
Caleb’s arm was curled around her waist, his chest pressed against her back, his breath warm against her hair. They fit together perfectly-two pieces of a puzzle that had finally found each other.
And between them, something buzzed.
It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t overwhelming. It was soft and constant, like the hum of a distant bee, like the vibration of a plucked string still singing in the air. It pulsed in time with their heartbeats-two hearts that now beat as one.
Iva’s eyes fluttered open.
Morning light filtered through the heavy curtains, casting everything in a pale gold glow. She could see dust motes dancing in the air, could hear birds singing somewhere outside the window, Everything felt… peaceful. Complete. Satisfied in a way she had never known was possible.
Caleb stirred behind her. His arm tightened around her waist, pulling her closer, and she felt his lips press against the back of her neck.
“Good morning, little mate.”
His voice was rough with sleep, and the sound of it sent a shiver down her spine.
“Good morning,” she whispered.
They lay there for a while, neither speaking, just existing in the quiet hum of the bond between them. Iva traced her fingers along his forearm, feeling the muscles beneath his skin, marveling at how natural this felt.
How right.
“This buzzing,” she said finally. “Is it always going to be there?”
Caleb was quiet for a moment, considering.
“I think so.” His thumb traced lazy circles on her hip. “It’s the bond. The mate bond. We completed it yesterday.”
Iva turned in his arms to face him. His eyes were soft, warm, looking at her like she was the only thing in the world that mattered. She reached up and touched his face, her fingers tracing his jaw, his cheekbone, the corner of his mouth.
“I feel…” She struggled to find the words. “Whole. Like I was missing something my entire life, and now I’m
not.”
Caleb’s hand covered hers, pressing her palm flat against his cheek.

The Truth L.
That’s exactly what it is,” he said. “We were two halves. Now we’re one.”
They kissed then-slow and sweet and unhurried. No desperation. No hunger. Just the quiet joy of two people who had found their way to each other.
When they finally pulled apart, Iva was smiling so wide her cheeks hurt.
“We’re going to be late for breakfast,” she said.
Caleb’s grin was wolfish. “Let them wait.”

But eventually, they rose. Iva dressed in clothes that had been left for her-a simple blue dress that brought out her eyes, soft and flowing and far finer than anything she owned. Caleb wore a dark tunic and trousers, his hair still damp from splashing water on his face.
They walked to the dining hall side by side, his hand resting on the small of her back. The castle was awake now-servants bustling, guards stationed at every corner-but the hallways felt less intimidating with him beside her.
The royal family was already seated when they arrived.
Iva’s steps faltered.
The king sat at the head of the table, his silver-streaked hair catching the morning light. He was tall and broad, with the same eyes as Caleb, and even sitting down, he radiated power. Beside him, the queen was everything soft and graceful-hair piled elegantly, a gentle smile on her lips.
