Back in her room, as she was trying to nurse her wounds, Iva got interrupted by a knock. She limped towards the door and when she opened it, her best friend was grinning excited, smile which evaporated in seconds.

Lori looked one second away from a complete nervous breakdown as she crouched in front of Iva, her hands flying everywhere at once while she inspected the bruises scattered over her arms and shoulders, and the dramatic expression on her face almost made Iva forget the exhausting chaos of the previous

hours.

“Oh goddess above, Iva!” Lori practically shrieked, her voice echoing through the small academy room. What happened to you? Who attacked you? Why are you bruised everywhere? Why does your neck look

like-”

She stopped mid sentence.

Her eyes widened so much that Iva honestly feared they might pop out of her skull.

“And what,” Lori whispered in utter disbelief while pointing with a trembling finger toward Iva’s neck, “is

THAT?”

Iva blinked before a helpless laugh escaped her lips.

A real laugh.

Warm.

Embarrassed.

Almost giddy.

“Oh no,” Lori gasped dramatically while grabbing her own chest. “No, no, no, don’t you dare laugh like that. That is not an innocent laugh. That is a woman-that-got-thoroughly-kissed laugh.”

“Lori!” Iva squeaked, her entire face turning crimson.

But her best friend had already launched herself beside her on the bed, eyes sparkling wildly with excitement despite the panic from earlier.

“Explain. Immediately. Start talking before I explode.”

Iva laughed again, softer this time, before carefully pulling the collar of her shirt slightly lower, exposing the elegant dark mark wrapped possessively against her neck.

The moment Lori saw it properly, she inhaled so sharply that she nearly choked.

“Oh. My. Goddess.”

Her hands slapped over her mouth.

“That’s permanent,” she whispered in awe.

Iva nodded slowly, unable to stop the blush crawling over her cheeks as memories assaulted her mind all

ever again – Caleb’s arms around her, the burning heat of his body, the overwhelming possessiveness in his eyes, the way his voice deepened whenever he called her mate.

Avalon purred happily inside her.

Mate.

Even now the word alone made warmth spread through her chest.

Lori grabbed both her shoulders suddenly.

“Tell me everything.”

Iva bit her lower lip.

“Well…”

The mischievous sparkle immediately returned into Lori’s eyes.

“Oh goddess, you actually look happy saying ‘well.’ You are doomed.”

Iva buried her burning face inside her palms while Lori started shaking her dramatically.

“Details, woman!”

“It happened while I visited the castle,” Iva admitted weakly. “We were together and things escalated a little-”

“A little?” Lori repeated suspiciously.

Iva looked away.

“Maybe more than a little.”

Lori narrowed her eyes.

“How much more?”

Iva’s silence was answer enough.

Lori froze.

Then she screamed again.

“I KNEW IT!”

Iva dissolved into embarrassed laughter while trying to silence her before the entire hallway heard them.

“Keep your voice down!”

“How can I keep my voice down?” Lori whisper shouted aggressively. “You disappeared with the terrifyingly handsome Lycan Crown Prince and returned fully marked!”

The sheer enthusiasm radiating from her friend was impossible to contain.

Lori suddenly gasped dramatically again.
