New Beginning-1
Two days later, an SUV rolled to a stop at the end of a long, winding dirt road.
Lori stared out the window, her breath catching in her throat. Before her stretched a small farmhouse, nestled in a valley surrounded by rolling hills and dense forest. The house was modest but

well-maintained-white walls, a red tin roof, a wraparound porch that seemed to invite quiet evenings and slow mornings.
Beyond the house, the land stretched wide and open, fields of wild grass swaying in the breeze. A small stream meandered through the property, its waters glinting in the afternoon sun. And in the distance, the forest rose-dark, ancient, welcoming.
Lori let out a long breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding.
“It’s beautiful,” she whispered.
Attia said nothing.
He sat beside her, his hands gripping the steering wheel, his eyes fixed on the house. The past two days had been long and silent-not the heavy silence of tension, but the comfortable silence of two people who had said everything that needed to be said.
They had driven through the night, through winding roads and empty landscapes, leaving behind the Council, the Scott family, the life they had known. Caleb and Iva had given them more than just coordinates-they had given them a future. Financial resources to start over, a safe place to land, and the promise of support whenever they needed it.
The Council had frozen their accounts, of course. A desperate, petty move designed to force them to change their minds. But Caleb had anticipated that, The funds were untraceable, hidden in accounts the Council would never find.
Lori and Attia had accepted the gift as a loan, with gratitude and a quiet determination to make it work.

She turned to Attia.
“What do you think?” she asked softly.
Attia’s eyes moved across the property-the house, the fields, the forest. His expression was unreadable.
“I think,” he said slowly, “that I have never been so terrified and so hopeful at the same time.”
Lori reached over and took his hand.
“We’ll figure it out,” she said. “Together.”
Attia looked at her, his dark eyes softening.
“Together,” he echoed.
They climbed out of the SUV, their feet crunching against the gravel path. The air was clean and cool,

tori walked toward the house, her hand still clasped in Attia’s.

The porch steps creaked under their weight. The front door was unlocked-Caleb had made sure of that. Lori pushed it open and stepped inside.
The interior was simple but welcoming. Wooden floors. A stone fireplace. Sunlight streaming through large windows that overlooked the fields. The furniture was sparse but comfortable-a worn couch, a sturdy table, shelves waiting to be filled.
“It’s perfect,” Lori breathed.
Attia stood in the doorway, watching her.
“You really think so?” he asked, his voice uncertain.
Lori turned to him, her eyes shining.
“I think it’s the most perfect place I’ve ever seen,” she said. “Because it’s ours.”
Attia crossed the room and pulled her into his arms.
“Our first home,” he murmured into her hair.
