She looked down at her hands, scarred and broken.

“What about your parents?” Attia asked quietly. “Couldn’t they help you?”
Meriem’s eyes filled with tears.
“They believed him,” she whispered. “They believed Calin.”
She set the cup down, her hands trembling.
“He told them I was sick. Unstable. That I had outbursts, that I was a danger to myself and others. And the thing is-he made sure it looked true.”
Lori’s brow furrowed.
