The Messenger( Iva) novel Chapter 347

The Appeal I

The days leading up to the hearing passed in a blur of activity, each moment charged with a nervous energy that seemed to permeate every corner of the royal castle.

Iva threw herself into organizing the ball with a fervor that bordered on obsession. She pored over guest lists, sampled menus, debated floral arrangements, and oversaw every minute detail with the precision of a general planning a campaign.

Her pregnancy gave her a radiant glow that made everyone around her smile, but beneath the surface, she was anxious-not for herself, but for her best friend and the man who had become like a brother to her. She wanted everything to be perfect, wanted to create a moment of joy that would overshadow the darkness that had threatened to consume them all.

Lori spent her days with Meriem, slowly coaxing her out of the shell that years of abuse had built around her heart. They walked together in the castle gardens, the flowers blooming around them in a riot of color. They sat by the fire in the private chambers, talking for hours about everything and nothing. Lori shared stories of her childhood, of her parents, of the dreams she had once harbored. Meriem listened, her eyes soft, and slowly, cautiously, she began to share her own stories-the good ones, the ones that had been buried beneath years of pain.

And Attia-Attia prepared for the hearing with the focus of a warrior preparing for battle. He reviewed the evidence until he knew every detail by heart. He rehearsed his testimony in the mirror, his voice steady, his eyes burning with conviction. He tried to prepare himself for every possible outcome, to steel himself against the possibility of disappointment.

But beneath his calm exterior, a storm of emotions churned-hope and fear, determination and desperation. The bond with Lori was everything to him. It was the foundation of his new life, the anchor that kept him grounded, the light that had guided him out of the darkness. He would fight for it with every fiber of his being.

The hearing was scheduled for the day before the ball.

A coincidence, perhaps. Or perhaps fate’s way of ensuring that whatever happened, the truth would finally come to light-and that the celebration that followed would be either a victory or a mourning.

The morning of the hearing dawned grey and cold, the sky heavy with clouds that seemed to mirror the weight pressing down on Attia’s heart.

He stood before the mirror, adjusting the cuffs of his formal jacket. The fabric was dark, severe, a stark contrast to the turmoil churning within him. His reflection stared back at him -a man who had been through hell and emerged stronger. A man who had found love in the most unexpected of places. A man who would fight to the death to protect it.

His hands, usually so steady, trembled slightly as he smoothed the lapels of his jacket.

Lori appeared behind him, her hands resting on his shoulders, her warmth seeping into him like a balm. She was dressed in a simple but elegant gown, her red hair falling in soft waves around her face. Her eyes, those beautiful green eyes that had captured his heart from the very beginning, were filled with a quiet strength that made his chest ache.

“Are you ready?” she asked softly, her voice a gentle anchor in the storm of his thoughts.

Attia met her gaze in the mirror.

“I’m ready,” he said, his voice steady despite the chaos inside him. “Whatever happens, we face it together.”

Lori pressed a kiss to his cheek, her lips soft and warm against his skin.

“Together,” she echoed.

They walked out of the chambers, hand in hand, their steps measured and purposeful.

The corridor stretched before them, lined with portraits of ancient wolves who had walked these halls before. The weight of history pressed down on them, a reminder of the battles that had been fought, the sacrifices that had been made, the legacy they were fighting to protect.

Caleb was waiting for them at the entrance to the Council chamber. His face was grim, his eyes shadowed with concern.

“The Council is in session,” he said quietly. “They’ve reviewed the evidence. They’re ready to deliver their verdict.”

Attia nodded, his jaw tight.
