Elian Vance-2
Iva’s heart ached with love for her.
And then, she saw him.
The unknown man was moving.
He had left the fountain, his steps measured and purposeful, his gaze fixed on a point across the room. He moved through the crowd with an easy confidence, his silver-streaked hair catching the candlelight, his broad shoulders squared with quiet determination. He was not young-perhaps in his late fifties, his face lined with the wisdom of years-but his eyes were bright and full of life.
He was coming toward them.
Iva’s breath caught in her throat. Her hand flew to her chest, pressing against the sudden flutter of her heart.
*He’s coming,* she mind-linked Caleb, her mental voice sharp with sudden urgency. *The man-the one matched with my mother. He’s coming toward our group.*
Caleb’s response was immediate, his voice laced with surprise and curiosity. *What? Your mother?!*
*I see him. He’s walking toward us. Toward her. His eyes are fixed on her.* Iva’s voice trembled. *He looks so certain. So sure. As if he already knows what he’s about to discover.*
She watched as he approached, his path clearing through the crowd as if the wolves around him instinctively stepped aside. They seemed to sense the gravity of the moment, the weight of destiny unfolding before them. His steps were measured, deliberate, but there was a nervous energy in the way he adjusted his collar, the way his fingers brushed against his tag as if to reassure himself it was still there.
He reached the group and stopped.
His gaze settled on Rana, and for a moment, time seemed to freeze.
The music continued to play, but Iva heard none of it. The laughter of the guests faded into a distant echo. There was only her mother, and the man who was looking at her as if she were the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
