The Summer Palace rose like a monument of white stone and glass at the far end of the royal estate, its terraces bathed in the pale gold of the early morning sun, fountains murmuring quietly in the gardens while the scent of ancient pines drifted through the cool air.
Caleb parked the car with controlled precision, though the tension inside his chest had not eased even slightly during the entire drive.
If anything, the closer he got to the palace, the worse the pressure in his head became.
His father’s words still echoed relentlessly.
We found the next Messenger.
It should have been good news.
Great news, even.
The kingdom had waited years for the next Messenger to appear. The council had searched tirelessly across packs and territories, watching every sign, every omen, every rumor that might hint at the Moon Goddess sending her chosen vessel.
And now-
They claimed she had been found.
Yet Caleb felt none of the relief that should have accompanied such news.
Instead, an uncomfortable knot of agitation twisted inside him.
He stepped out of the car and made his way toward the palace entrance, the guards bowing respectfully as he passed.
“Your Highness.”
He acknowledged them with a brief nod, his mind already elsewhere.
Inside, the palace was quiet but alive with movement.
Servants moved through the halls with discreet efficiency, their steps soft against the polished marble floors, while the distant murmur of voices carried faintly through the corridors.
A young attendant approached quickly.
“Your Highness,” the man said respectfully. “His Majesty is expecting you.”
“Where?”
“The eastern sitting lounge.”
Caleb nodded once.
“Lead the way.”

They walked through a series of elegant hallways until the attendant stopped before a pair of tall carved doors.
He opened them silently..
Caleb stepped inside.
And immediately noticed the atmosphere.
The room was filled with several important figures.
At the far side sat his father, King William Adama, the current Lycan King, his commanding presence unmistakable even when seated casually in one of the large armchairs near the fireplace.
Beside him were members of the High Council.
The Head of the Council himself.
Two senior ministers.
And a few other advisors Caleb recognized from court assemblies.
But what struck him most was the mood.
The room felt… light.
Almost celebratory.
Conversations flowed easily, smiles appeared freely, and the tension that normally surrounded council gatherings was absent.
It made sense, of course.
If they truly believed the Messenger had been found, then this was a moment of immense relief for the kingdom.
His father noticed him almost immediately.
“Caleb.”
The King’s deep voice carried across the room.
He stood as his son approached, a pleased expression crossing his face.
“Come, son.”
Caleb bowed his head respectfully.
“Father.”
Then the King gestured toward someone standing near the window.
“Come and meet Sonia.”
The girl turned.

Calcb’s gaze settled on her immediately.
She was beautiful.
There was no denying that.

Long black hair cascaded over her shoulders in glossy waves, framing a delicate face with smooth pale skin and soft brown eyes that seemed to sparkle under the morning light.
Her posture was perfect.
Elegant.
Controlled.
She wore a pale blue dress that fell gracefully around her figure, the fabric moving lightly as she stepped forward.
If someone had asked Caleb to imagine what the Messenger should look like, Sonia would have easily fit the image.
