Caleb tilted his head slightly.
“Mostly?”
William nodded.
“The council discovered a more direct method.”
Caleb waited.
The king continued.
“They brought several couples into the chamber.”
Caleb’s attention sharpened immediately.
“Couples?”
“Yes,” William said. “Pairs that had already been identified as fated mates by the previous Messenger during her lifetime.”
Caleb’s jaw tightened slightly.
“And?”
William’s voice carried a hint of satisfaction.
“They mixed them with other unrelated wolves. A large group. Completely random.”
Caleb already understood where this was going.
“Sonia was asked to identify which individuals were bonded.”
William nodded once.
“And she succeeded.”
Caleb frowned faintly.
“Successfully?”
“Every single pair.”
William’s gaze sharpened slightly as he watched his son’s reaction.
“She named every mated couple correctly.”
Caleb felt a strange heaviness settle inside his chest.
“I see.”
His father studied him for another moment.

You sound unconvinced.”
Caleb shook his head slightly.
“No. I simply… wanted to understand the process.”
William’s expression softened a little.
“Caleb, the council would not declare the Messenger lightly.”-
“I know, but is a bit strange that they didn’t wait for the full moon test.”
“Caleb, Sonia showed remarkable accuracy in showing whom with whom belong.”
Caleb nodded again.
“I see.”
Yet the strange discomfort in his chest remained.
Because something about the explanation did not erase the memory of Iva’s quiet certainty when she spoke about the red thread.
William clapped his son lightly on the shoulder.
“You worry too much.”
Caleb forced a faint smile.
“Perhaps.”
At that moment, one of the attendants stepped outside.
“Your Majesty, lunch is ready.”
William nodded.
“Good.”
He glanced back toward Caleb.
“Come. Let’s eat before the council begins discussing ceremony schedules.”

The dining hall was bright and elegant, sunlight pouring through tall windows that overlooked the palace gardens.
A long table had been prepared.
The council members took their seats.
Sonia was seated two places away from Caleb.
And the moment everyone settled, Caleb noticed something immediately.

Sonia kept looking at him.
Not occasionally.
Constantly.
Her eyes drifted toward him during every pause in conversation, her cheeks flushing slightly whenever their gazes met.
The ministers noticed.
The council noticed.
And judging by the subtle smiles appearing around the table-
They were enjoying it.
Caleb remained perfectly composed.
He sipped from his glass of water while the conversation shifted toward ceremonial planning.
Then the king suddenly chuckled softly.
“Well now,” William said, leaning back slightly in his chair.
The table quieted.
His eyes moved toward Sonia.
“My dear, you seem rather captivated by my son.”
Sonia froze slightly.
Her cheeks turned a deeper shade of pink.
The ministers chuckled quietly.
Caleb closed his eyes briefly.
Of course this was happening.
Sonia lowered her gaze modestly.
“I apologize if I appear rude, Your Majesty.”
“Oh no,” William replied with amusement. “I simply find the situation entertaining.”
