Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Heartless

She was running after a butterfly.

On the side, three servants were supervising her.

The little girl stopped playing after a while and asked one of the servants,

"Uncle Jeff, is Mom and Dad ready?"

"They will be in a minute or two princess and then you can go for an amazing ride!" Uncle Jeff said.

"Yay!" The girl shouted.

And just as Uncle Jeff said, the girl’s parent came out. However, their expression was unpleasant and it was clear that they were worried about some things.

On the way, the little girl kept on chatting and emphasized how happy she was since their family was finally going on some vacation!

The girl’s parent only chuckled, but the laughter died down when suddenly a truck from behind attacked them.

The girl’s mother worried about the girl and wrapped the girl in her arms to protect her from any possible danger.

Just then a truck from the front came and crashed into their car.

The impact of being crash between the two trucks was so high, that the car was completely crushed.

The little girl’s parents were severely injured, and they couldn’t move.

The girl, however, miraculously escaped without any major injuries. But she was trapped inside the car, surrounded by the wreckage.

"Mom! Dad!" she cried out, tears streaming down her face.

But her parents couldn’t respond. They were unconscious, their bodies limp and bruised. Blood from flowing from their heads.

The girl knew that something was wrong and kept on patting their face.

The girl’s mother slowly woke up and looked at the girl, she smiled weakly and said,

"Jin you have to live on. You can’t die!"

The girl was Gu Jin.

The things that happened later made Gu Jin believe in one thing, that god does exist but destiny exists too.

Gu Jin closed her eyes. It was becoming difficult for her to breathe and she even wanted to run away to some faraway place.

Hence she went upstairs. Once in her room, Gu Jin lay on her bed and wrapped herself in a blanket.

Her body was turning cold with each passing seconds and for a moment she felt as if she had fallen into an ice cellar.

Gu Jin gritted her teeth and chanted in her head,

"Calm down. Calm down."

As if it was some kind of mantra, Gu Jin soon calmed down.

Her body was still cold but Gu Jin was able to fall asleep.

The next day.

When Gu Jin woke up, her entire head was covered in sweat, her breathing was fast and she felt a bit dizzy and nauseous too.

Gu Jin entered her bathroom and vomited whatever food she had eaten the last night. Her complexion was extremely pale.

Gu Jin nodded and asked as they made their way downstairs,

"When are we going to leave?"

Tang Guan looked at Gu Jin with a complex expression, before shifting his gaze and saying,

"Tomorrow."

Gu Jin frowned a bit but didn’t comment.

The atmosphere in the lodge was heavy with sorrow and guilt, weighing down on each member of the Shadow Fangs.

Gu Jin could sense the palpable tension in the air as they gathered for breakfast, their usual camaraderie replaced by somber silence.

As they sat around the table, Gu Jin noticed how each member seemed lost in their own thoughts, grappling with the weight of their actions.

Xu Mingtao and Yi Ran, usually lively and spirited, now wore expressions of remorse and regret.

Even Zhang Wei, their stoic leader, appeared burdened by the knowledge of what they had done.

She understood their emotions.

However, when they knew that the black-cloaked man was doing all of that for his brother, their heart ached.

In the end, their situation is quite similar to the black-cloaked man’s. Though they didn’t work in a gray line of the area, they kept taking tasks that were dangerous.

If someday for some reason they die too, would their family feel the same? Would they cry like the lean man too?

And most importantly, the guilt of breaking a family apart after knowing their struggle is something they can’t handle.
