Primrose didn’t say anything, but the look in her eyes said enough. Deep down, she already knew something about her wasn’t normal.
Leofric spoke slowly, carefully choosing his words. "The magic I found inside the tiger’s brain ... it was mind control magic."
He let the words settle in Primrose’s mind before continuing. "This isn’t something that can be learned or trained. Even someone with powerful magic couldn’t use it unless they were born with it."
"There are only two possible explanations for someone to have this kind of ability," he continued. "One, they inherited it through bloodline. Or two ..." He hesitated, clearly unsure whether to say it. "They were blessed by the heavens themselves."
Leofric let Primrose absorb the information for a moment before asking again, "So, which one is it, Your Majesty?" He looked at her intently. "Did you inherit that magic through your bloodline, or ... does heaven love you so much that it blessed you with such tremendous power?"
Primrose opened her mouth to answer but stopped halfway. Her lips pressed into a line.
The truth was ... she didn’t know. She had no idea where this strange power came from.
"I don’t know," she said softly. "I’ve never controlled anyone’s mind before."
"Else," Leofric emphasized. "You’ve never controlled anyone else’s mind, except for the tiger, remember?"
He leaned back slightly. "I’ve already sealed this place with a magical barrier. No one will hear a word of what’s being said in this room. That’s why, Your Majesty, if there’s something you want to tell us, you won’t be in any danger after doing so."
Telling them that she could control someone’s mind was one thing. But telling them that she could read people’s minds? That was an entirely different matter.
If they knew, they’d likely start guarding their thoughts around her. And worst of all, she wouldn’t be able to read Edmund’s mind so freely anymore.
"No," she said finally, keeping her voice light. "I don’t have anything else to say. I honestly don’t even understand how I was able to control someone’s mind in the first place."
"I see," Leofric replied.
Although his expression didn’t show the slightest hint of suspicion, his thoughts told a different story.
[I feel like Her Majesty is still hiding something.]
[Mind control magic is extremely rare. She might be the only person in the world who possesses it right now.]
[And based on the information I’ve gathered, someone with that kind of ability usually awakens another power before their mind control manifests.]
[What was it again? Oh ... the mind-reading ability. That’s it. It always comes first.]
[But I’m not sure if he has that ability or not.]
Primrose dug her fingernails into her palm, silently reminding herself not to react, not to let her thoughts show on her face.
Her eyes widened for a brief second, but she quickly lowered her gaze, hiding it behind a blink.
"There’s a chance you inherited this magic," Leofric said again, a bit more gently. "Maybe you’ve had it since you were born, but it only awakened recently when you were in danger."
Primrose furrowed her brows. "My father didn’t have any magic like that."
Leofric tilted his head. "What about your mother?"
"I ... I don’t know much about her," Primrose admitted, looking down. "She died right after giving birth to me. And my father never mentioned anything about her having magic either."
