The Mind-Reading Mate Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me novel Chapter 32

Chapter 32: The Queen Wants A Ring! (I)

The hallway had grown unbearably cold, so Edmund wasted no time escorting Primrose back to her bedroom. But if he was being honest with himself, the chill in the air wasn’t the real reason he brought her here.

No, he just needed to be alone with his wife.

Primrose sat quietly on the bed, watching as Edmund moved through the room, tossing out anything with so much as a sharp edge. Scissors, hairpins, even a letter opener, nothing was spared.

Her act must have been truly convincing because even the mighty Lycan King looked genuinely afraid that she would die the moment he turned his back.

"Your Majesty, I’m fine now," Primrose said, watching him. "If you keep throwing my things away, my bedroom will be completely empty."

[Why the hell is every single one of her hairpins so sharp?! I’ll have the maids dull them all!]

Edmund finally stopped discarding her belongings and turned to face her.

His wife looked so fragile.

Her red, swollen eyes and the faint trails of dried tears on her cheeks making her seem even more pitiful.

"I’ll ask the maids to get you safer things later." Edmund let out a heavy sigh, rubbing his temples. "Just ... don’t do anything stupid again."

"I know I’m stupid." Primrose muttered, deliberately emphasizing the word as she smacked herself on the head.

Edmund rushed to her, grabbing her wrists before she could hit her head again. His grip was firm yet gentle, as if he were afraid she might break under his touch.

"That’s not what I meant," he said, his voice tense. He took a deep breath, trying not to raise his tone by accident.

Then, much to her surprise, he knelt in front of her.

His icy-blue eyes, always so intense, now held a warmth she had never seen before.

"What I meant to say is ..." He hesitated, as if choosing his words carefully. "I’ll take care of anyone who speaks ill of you. You don’t have to worry about them."

This ... this escalated quickly.

She had expected him to scold her. Maybe even lecture her about how life was precious. But this?

He was promising to protect her and talked to her in such a gentle tone.

All because she faked a suicide attempt?

Had she done this in the past, would he have been less cold toward her? Would he have treated her the way he was treating her now?

No. There was no point in thinking about something that no longer mattered.

Instead of dwelling on what-ifs, it was better to focus on how she could use this moment to gain something from the Lycan King.

New dresses? Gold? More luxury goods?

No, that wasn’t enough. He would willingly give her those things if she simply asked. If she wanted to take advantage of this situation, she needed to ask for something truly valuable.

She lowered her gaze, and her eyes instinctively fell on her empty ring finger.

Unlike humans, beasts didn’t propose with rings. To them, a mate mark served the same purpose, perhaps even more so.

But still ... was there really something wrong with wearing a wedding ring?

"Your Majesty," Primrose spoke softly. "Have you ever ... felt disappointed knowing that your mate is a human?"
