The Mind-Reading Mate Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me novel Chapter 427

Chapter 427: The King Who Doesn’t Like Anything

"Father," Primrose said softly. "Will you have some free time after the auction?"

Lazarus raised an eyebrow, his expression curious. "What’s wrong? Do you want to talk about something?"

Primrose glanced toward Hazelle, who stood quietly among the maids. Since Hazelle wasn’t a beast, the maids in the Duke’s manor didn’t feel wary around her. It made it easier for her to blend in, unlike Marielle or the other beast maids.

"Yes," Primrose said with a gentle smile. "I want to introduce you to someone." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Hazelle froze when she heard that, her eyes widening slightly.

[Does Her Majesty really plan to introduce me to His Grace?] she thought nervously. [Is that even alright? It feels strange to suddenly be treated like a noble.]

Primrose understood her worry. It wasn’t easy to suddenly step into the noble circle, but Hazelle didn’t actually need to become part of the Duke’s family if she didn’t want to mingle with other nobles.

All she needed was a noble background, just enough to protect her in the future.

"Alright, we can meet during dinner," Lazarus said. "If someone bids a high price for my rum, I’ll take you both out for a nice meal!"

Primrose laughed. "Oh, Father, who are you trying to fool? There’s no way your rum will sell cheap at the auction."

She was right. The income he made from his rare alcohol was always enormous, sometimes equal to three months’ worth of his regular sales.

There was no way it would ever sell for a low price.

"You’d better treat me to dinner at a good restaurant," Primrose warned playfully. "I’ll go home early if you serve me another bland meal."

Lazarus clicked his tongue, pretending to be annoyed. "Don’t threaten your old man like that. I might just change the locks so you can’t leave the house."

Primrose chuckled in response and went back to finishing her breakfast. After that, she got ready to go to the auction house with Edmund, while her father would follow later after checking on the business reports that had been left unattended for several days.

"Do you plan to buy something there?" Edmund asked as the carriage started moving. Primrose opened the auction catalogue, flipping through the pages. Sometimes she would pause and stare at an item longer than usual.

"I’m not sure..." she murmured, tilting the catalogue so Edmund could see. "Do you like anything here?"

The truth was, Primrose was secretly looking for a birthday gift for him. His birthday was coming soon, and she wanted it to be something meaningful.

She had been thinking about it for quite some time, but nothing she came up with felt good enough for her husband.

After Edmund had given her five hundred gold coins as her dowry, he helped her buy land in a foreign kingdom worth fifty thousand gold coins. The land was now rented by several people, so Primrose received at least ten thousand gold per year.

In other words, she hadn’t made a profit yet, but since she still had plenty of money left, she could use it to buy him an expensive gift.

Sevrin had even joked once that Edmund’s money only started disappearing after he got married because most of his spending now went to buying her things.

That was enough for him. As long as he had those three things, he believed he was living well.

After hearing that, Primrose only felt sadder, and more determined to spoil her husband rotten.

"That necklace looks beautiful. I think it would look great on you, my wife," Edmund said with a soft smile.

The corner of Primrose’s eye twitched slightly when she heard that. Just as she had said before, he only ever thought about the things she liked, but when it came to his own preferences, his mind went completely blank.

"How about you?" Primrose asked with a sigh. "Are you sure there’s nothing you want? What about this legendary sword? It looks amazing, doesn’t it?"

"Yes, it looks great. But I already have my own sword," Edmund replied easily. He flipped the next page of the catalogue, and suddenly his eyes lit up. "Look, wife, there’s an exclusive perfume. Do you want it?"

Primrose almost smacked her forehead right there in front of her husband because, of course, the only thing that made his eyes light up was something he thought she would like.

"Maybe we should just see the items in person," Primrose said as she closed the catalogue. "Things usually look even more beautiful when you see them up close. Besides, there are often a few surprise items at the auction that aren’t listed in the catalogue."

Edmund nodded. "If there’s something you like, I’ll buy it for you."

Primrose let out a quiet groan and covered her face with one hand. Her husband was too sweet for his own good, sweet enough to make her heart melt, but also frustrating enough to make her want to scream.
