The Mind-Reading Mate Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me novel Chapter 458

Chapter 458: The Filth Beneath the Crown

There were so many terrible things Bianca said in her mind, and most of the time, she kept calling Primrose a bitch.

If Bianca were a stranger whom Primrose didn’t know well, she would have chosen to simply ignore the insults. But no—Bianca was her friend, a close friend, to be exact.

How could someone harbor so many negative thoughts toward one of her closest friends?

No wonder Cassandra always sounded so angry whenever Bianca’s name came up. If even those who couldn’t read minds felt that way, then Primrose—who heard every cruel thought—had it far worse.

"I hope you can stay here for a long time," Bianca said sweetly, her smile gentle and warm.

[I hope this bitch leaves as soon as possible!] Bianca thought bitterly. [I’m so sick of seeing her face!]

Primrose forced herself to keep smiling, even though her fingers twitched at her side. She truly wanted to slap Bianca right then and there. "It would be an honor to stay here longer," Primrose replied calmly.

[Tch. If she keeps staying here, she’ll keep seducing my husband! What’s so good about her anyway? I’m prettier than her and plumper than her too!]

Primrose really wanted to throw a piece of cake at Bianca’s face right now. If her husband couldn’t control his gaze and kept staring at another woman instead of his own wife, then the one to blame should be her husband!

Primrose had never even flirted with him! And Edmund was far more handsome than any other man in this room!

"I’m sorry, I should speak to my other guests now," Bianca said politely, though in truth she didn’t want to stand in front of Primrose any longer. "Please, enjoy the banquet."

She walked away, and within seconds, the smile on Primrose’s face disappeared. She even relaxed her posture the moment Bianca was no longer looking at her.

"She’s quite something, isn’t she?"

Primrose flinched when Salem suddenly appeared beside her out of nowhere. She didn’t even know how long he had been standing there!

He was holding a cupcake and eating it like this was just another pleasant night. "The nobles in your homeland are really strange, Your Majesty."

"How strange?" Primrose asked after she recovered from her surprise.

Salem took another bite of the cupcake before answering. "They hate beasts so much, but once they realize we’re blessed with good looks, they suddenly want to marry us."

Primrose laughed softly. "No, it’s not just that," she added. "They act this way because my husband treats me so well, and now they think he’s the standard husband in the beastland."

Salem sighed. "I hope they don’t end up marrying abusive beasts, or the other beasts will suffer the consequences."

Interracial marriages were often more harmful to the beast side. Most beasts were stronger than humans, and even when they weren’t, humans only believed what they commonly saw.

So if a beast abused their human spouse, humans would immediately say, ’What did you expect? Beasts are vile creatures.’

However, Edmund hadn’t been able to track down everyone involved in the scheme, even after sending many people to investigate.

There was a high chance that those involved were powerful figures, making it easy for them to erase their tracks.

Still, no matter how difficult it was, Edmund never stopped trying to find those bastards, so he could make them suffer for treating children like toys.

Some of the children had never recovered from their trauma, forcing Edmund to make a painful decision. He chose to erase their worst memories by asking the finest wizard to do it.

Of course, that left them confused, and even now, Edmund still questioned whether it was the right choice or not.

But if he hadn’t done that, those children would never have escaped their nightmares, and many of them might have tried to end their lives once they grew older.

So whether he liked it or not, creating false memories was their only chance to live, and Edmund vowed to watch over them for the rest of their lives.

"I can’t be completely certain," Salem said quietly. "But Your Majesty, this kind of scheme has been going on for many years."

He pressed his lips into a thin line. "And no, this isn’t something you can clean up easily. Too many rulers and powerful people are involved behind the scenes. Even if I had reported this to you earlier, you wouldn’t have been able to do anything because they would erase all traces, even burning every child and person involved."

Primrose could see the pain in Salem’s eyes, as if he was not only pitying the children, but had also experienced the same pain himself. "And how do you know that?"
