The Mind-Reading Mate Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me novel Chapter 87

Chapter 87: A Hidden Genius

Silas pulled out a small leather pouch from his medicine bag. Even from where she was lying, Primrose could smell the strong scent of herbs wafting through the air.

If he really had poisoned her in her past life by using something that had no taste or smell, then slipping poison into something as strong-smelling as this herbal powder would be easy.

"This powdered herb works well for treating fevers," Silas said as he untied the pouch. "It’s a little bitter, but I can add honey so Your Majesty can drink it more easily."

He gave a subtle nod to his assistant to prepare the medicine. But just as he was about to hand the pouch over, Primrose spoke up.

"Can someone other than a doctor prepare that herbal drink?" she asked calmly.

Silas answered without much thought. "Yes, anyone can brew this kind of medicine. It’s also sold in local pharmacies."

"In that case," Primrose said with a small smile, "please give it to the maid. She’ll make it for me."

Silas’s smile faltered for a moment. It didn’t fully disappear, but there was a small crack in his expression. "May I ask why, Your Majesty? Wouldn’t it be better if I handled it myself?"

Edmund looked at Primrose in surprise. But he didn’t say anything. He trusted her and knew she wouldn’t say that without a reason.

"It’s already late," Primrose said, lowering her gaze slightly as if embarrassed. "After I drink the medicine, I’ll probably fall asleep right away. But I haven’t even changed out of my dress or washed my face. Sleeping like this would make me uncomfortable."

She looked up at Silas with a soft, innocent expression. "So I’d rather drink it after I’ve changed into something more comfortable. I hope that will be alright?"

"I don’t think that’s the best idea, Your Majesty," Silas said gently. "While anyone can brew it, the slightest mistake might affect the quality. It would be safer if either I or my assistant prepared it."

Primrose slowly lifted her head and glanced at the young woman standing silently behind Silas. Just like earlier, her mind was strangely quiet, too quiet, as if there wasn’t a single thought running through it.

That wasn’t normal.

"You can show the maid how to brew it," Primrose replied calmly. "My dress is a bit complicated, and I don’t feel comfortable letting just anyone touch it. That’s why only my personal maid will assist me."

Silas’s expression tightened ever so slightly. [If that’s the case, why not let her maid change her clothes while my assistant prepares the medicine?] he thought.

Before he could speak, Primrose added, "Also ... I’d rather have my medicine made in front of me. It makes me feel safer, that’s all. I hope you can understand."

Her voice was soft, but her meaning was clear.

[Why is she being so difficult? Safety? Does she think I’d poison her if I made the medicine in another room?]

[I’ve been smiling politely and speaking kindly since I arrived, haven’t I?]

While Silas silently questioned his acting skills, Edmund finally stepped in to end the discussion. "My wife said she’s uncomfortable. So, please respect her wishes."

Silas, who looked like he was about to argue, quickly closed his mouth and nodded politely. "Very well, then. I’ll teach your personal maid how to brew the herbal medicine properly."

Even though his words were polite, Primrose could still hear the venom in his thoughts.

[That damn dog ... If only I could get rid of him easily, I’d rather make him my target.]

Edmund could be a difficult man, sure, but Silas’s thoughts felt like something deeper like a personal grudge.

Not long after, her personal maid finally arrived.
