The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1014

Charlotte’s cool fingers pressed into Anthony’s cheek, snapping him out of his thoughts.

He glanced up at her. She tossed the cotton swab in the trash, crossed her arms, and grinned. “We’ve got ten months left. Don’t freak out.”

“Yeah.” Anthony’s lips were tight, his brows pulled together. He squeezed her hand. “Don’t you be scared, either.”

His eyes were so dark and steady that Charlotte paused, caught off guard. If things really went south and she didn’t make it, would Anthony be okay? Would he be heartbroken?

“With you around, what do I have to be afraid of?” She raised her brows to hide the rush of emotion, then brushed it off with a casual smile. “Did my blood test come back yet?”

“Huh?” Dr. David blinked, snapping out of it. “Yeah, it’s out. Just as we thought. Stage three.”

He handed her the report, frowning. “You’ll still feel weak sometimes, but the inhibitor’s working. It’s slowing things down for now. Make sure you get some rest. Try to eat well, too.”

He softened his tone. “I had someone bring over some herbs. Put them in your soup. Should help with the insomnia. But…”

“I know,” Charlotte cut in, looking tired. “We still haven’t found the catalyst, and the cure’s not coming anytime soon. There’ll be new drugs sent in for testing, so the institute is going to need you on top of things.”

“Of course,” Dr. David said.

“Alright, that’s it. You’re done here. Go home.” She waved him off, and a bodyguard rolled the equipment out, escorting Dr. David away from Imperial Heights.

As soon as he left, Anthony stepped over, kissed her forehead, and scooped her up. “Stop thinking so much. Time for bed.”

“Mmm.” Charlotte nestled into his chest, soaking up his warmth. Her voice was soft. “I’m so sleepy, but I didn’t even shower…”

Both X and N Organization’s labs had paused everything else to focus on the cure. He was sure there’d be a breakthrough soon.

Franco and Nora were coming back tomorrow. If someone who’d been gone for twenty years suddenly walked through the door, who knew if the Gates family could handle it.

At the Gates family home, Charlotte lounged on the sofa in Kenneth’s room, happily munching strawberries.

“What’s so urgent you had to come to my room to say it?” Kenneth asked, sipping his coffee. With his short brown hair, he looked especially good today.

Charlotte popped another strawberry in her mouth and answered lazily, “My mom’s still alive.”

Kenneth spat his coffee everywhere.
