“Bring the first-aid kit.” Robert’s voice was low as he sat down on the sofa, his lips pressed tight.

Less than two minutes later, a servant hurried in with the kit. Nora frowned as she gently cleaned Franco’s wound, her movements careful and her face darkening the more she saw. The skin was split open, blood welling up. It looked bad.

Did he really think he was invincible?

“I’m okay, it doesn’t hurt at all,” Franco whispered, squeezing Nora’s hand with a crooked little smile. “Think Dad’s letting up? Anthony’s advice worked better than I thought.”

Nora’s eyes turned red, her heart aching for him.

Once she’d finished tending to the wound, Franco held her hand a moment longer, gave her a small reassuring smile, then knelt again and looked up at Robert with respect.

“I got nervous and acted out of line just now. I hope you won’t hold it against me.”

Robert just stared at him, silent.

“I’m sure Nora’s told you everything about us. No matter what, I know I made mistakes and I take responsibility. I came today so you could vent your anger. Whatever you want to do, I’ll accept it.”

He paused, eyes red and jaw clenched, all playfulness gone.

“There’s just one thing I can’t do. I really love Nora. Please, don’t make us break up.”

Robert’s hard expression finally softened, just a little.

It was obvious how much Franco loved her.

He gently helped Nora back to the sofa.

“You better keep that promise. If you don’t…” Robert leaned on his cane, his anger completely gone as he gazed out the window, his eyes shining with unshed tears.

“If I ever let Nora down, you won’t have to do anything. Lottie will be the first to come after me.”

“Glad you know it.” Robert glanced at Charlotte and finally smiled, then turned back to Franco. “So, what do you do in Solenia?”

Franco hesitated, then answered respectfully, “I work in management.”

Running Solenia… That answer seemed to cover it.
