The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1061

“You’re really not easy on the eyes, you know. Kind of messing with my focus here.”

The remark was tossed out so casually, but it cut deep. Everyone in the lab turned to stare at Charlotte.

“What did you just say?”

Rena’s entire demeanor iced over as she marched up, furious. “The Hawk family funds this bio-genetics institute. Who do you think you are, mouthing off here?”

Being his assistant was just a front anyway. She was only here to steal his techniques. Once the genetic mutation project wrapped up, he’d be the first to go. Did he really think he was so important?

Aloys frowned at Charlotte, clearly confused. “My daughter’s been studying medicine since she was little. She’s more than qualified. What exactly is your problem with her?”

He was so hostile, right from the start.

“Honestly? Everything. Top to bottom, inside and out. I can’t find a single thing to like. Mostly, she’s got zero self-awareness.”

Charlotte slid a chair over and sat down, crossing her legs, looking completely uninterested. “Let me make this clear. If I’m here, she stays far away. If not, well…” She gave a lazy, cold smile. “I’ll walk. No hesitation.”

The threat hung in the air. Aloys looked shocked. Marcia and G2 exchanged confused glances, wondering what Rena could have done to get on Asclepius’s bad side.

“Rena, don’t come to the lab for now.”

“Dad—” Rena protested, but Aloys cut her off.

“Go.”

Rena bit her lip, shrugged off her lab coat, and stormed out, clearly unwilling but with no other choice. As she passed Charlotte, she paused. Why did he look so familiar? Had she met him before? Had she offended him somehow?

After Rena left, Charlotte finally got up and gave the lab a slow, sweeping look. A smirk curled at her lips. “Bring me the computer and your data. Five minutes.”

“Trying to keep secrets from me?” Charlotte leaned back, her smile all ice. “You really think you can waste my time with this junk?”

Without waiting for a reply, Charlotte got up, grabbed her bag, slung it over her shoulder, and headed for the door. Her tone was sharp. “Have fun with your little games. I’m done.”

“Wait!” G2 called, stopping her before she could leave.

The gene mutation project was too important. They hadn’t been sure if Asclepius was the real deal, so they tested him. They didn’t expect him to spot the fake data right away.

“Marcia, get the real files,” G2 said, his smile a little too cold.

The lab’s security had already been upgraded. Asclepius wasn’t going anywhere, and even if he saw the information, there was no way he could leak it.

Marcia gave Asclepius a long look, then told someone to fetch the materials they’d been holding back.
