"Which means, if anyone should be marrying you, it's her."

Newell stopped, hands shoved in his pockets. He looked up at her, cool and unbothered. "So you want to swap fiancées now?"

"Who wouldn't want their daughter to marry into our family?" Damaris replied. Merging the two big families was supposed to make them rulers of the Isle of Veil. Power, prestige, everything.

Newell's deep blue eyes flashed with mocking amusement. He let out a short, dry laugh. "Go ahead. If you can talk her into marrying me, I'll do it."

"Are you serious?" Damaris stared at him, surprised. Before Charlotte showed up, Marcia was the Hawk family heir. He'd never been this agreeable before.

"I'm serious," Newell replied, his tone cool, his smile almost teasing. "But honestly, getting the Hawk family to hand over the antidote is way more likely than getting her to agree to marry me."
